Steel Magnolias was filmed in Super 35....was it projected theatrically at 1.85:1 or 2.35:1?? The DVD is letterboxed at 1.85:1.
Super35 allows ARs from 1.85:1 to 2.35:1.
Super35 is often used for 1.33:1 acquisition in television productions.

Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery: 1.90:1
Blasfemi! AP is a 2.35:1 film. The director Jay Roach just opened the mattes a little bit for the DVD release.
1.85:1 since Super35 allows widescreen ARs from 1.85:1 to 2.35:1.
Sorry, Rutger, but I'm confused by your answer. I'm not sure whether you're saying it was 1.85:1 because you saw it theatrically in that AR, or if you're concluding that it must have been 1.85:1 because Super 35 allows for that AR all the way to 2.35:1. I know how Super 35 works, I'd just like to know how SM was shown theatrically.
