Despite the 4x on the cover, they only burn at 2x!! I'm using a Plextor 8/4/32A drive (latest firmware) and Nero 5551.
I've doubled checked my other CDRW/CDR's and they burn at the proper speeds. Even my Memorex 74 min CDRW's burn at 4x!

I got a pack of Verbatim 700mb CD-RWs last week and they burn fine at x4. Would prefer x10 though :)

Hmmm, I have about 20 CD-RWs (700 MB at 10x) and have never problem number one with them. Mine are Memorex's, and they work fine. Perhaps it has more to do with the burner than the CD-RWs?

Well being that I have the most popular burner on the market, I don't think it's the issue but before I bring the discs back to the store, I will try them on another computer that has a different burner.
Again, my Memorex 650 meg discs, as well as all others, are fine.
BTW, I use CDRW because my DVD player does not read CDR's.

I am half way through a stack of Memorex 80min CDRW's and have had no problems with any of them, and I'm burning at X6. Maybe it's a hardware issue?

Well I just installed an older version of Nero. It lets me select 4x for these discs but they take twice as long to burn! AH! It took 13 minutes to burn a 200 meg mpg. I tried an 80 minute CDRW by Gigastorage and it took 6 minutes. I then tried a 74 minute CDRW by Memorex and it took 6 minutes too. And it takes twice as long to erase the 80min Memorex discs then any other CDRW's I own!
This is definitely a botched batch of CDRW's! I'm glad I kept the receipt!

I avoid Memorex like the plauge now. Now matter how much, or how little I used to put on the Discs, they would all eventually fail in under 3 months.

Now I use TDK 80 Min CDR's, and so far I've never had a problem with them whatsoever...
