I don't know if anybody posted any information on this yet, but let me just say it again anyway.
SCI-Fi Channel picked up Stargate SG-1 for 22 episodes! This is phenomenal news for me, I am a HUGE SG-1 fan. It has to be on the best science fiction programs on television today. Ever since the first day I saw an episode on Showtime, I've been hooked. That's pretty tough also because I didn't have Showtime!
Now the question I ask is...will they have a season 7? Yes, I'm greedy! I want more! I just hope the storylines continue to be as high of a level as the previous ones. You know what I mean...sometimes the last season of shows are "just different". Probably because the characters have been through damn near everything and that they've already explored themselves to the fullest extent.

I don't think there will be a season 7, and if there is, it will DEFINATELY be the last. The cast basically wanted to throw in the towel at the end of this season, but fan response convinced them that one more was worth it. Supposedly they're going to do movies after this.

It was a movie that started all this. Its only fitting that a movie or two should end it. I too am a fan of the show. I even bought the first season box set and am hoping to get the rest of the seasons in the same box set manner.
I have had Showtime since the beginning and have followed the series ever since. I didn't know that Showtime had dropped the show. I am glad SCI-FI picked it up. They should do well as it seems that SCI-FI is concerned with quality.

Does this mean that SciFi has any rights to earlier seasons of the show? Having only just gotten hooked, I really want to see earlier seasons.

Stargate Season 6 will bow on Sci-Fi in June of 2002
Reruns of seasons 1-5 will begin stripping on sci-fi in November of 2002. Kind of reversed, but hopefully a season 7 will roll, then films.

Thank you Sci-Fi channel for Season 6 of Stargate SG-1

I don't see how sci-fi picking up SG1 could be a good thing, EVER.
Look what they did with Sliders, Outer Limits, Farscape, etc.
They're not interested in quality, only the *QUANTITY* of commercials they can jam on.
Sorry, this is definetely BAD NEWS.

I thought that season 5 was the end because Michael Shanks wanted out? Showtime would have to be crazy to drop this, and having it on sci-fi scares me too.

Showtime dumps almost all of their series after 5 years. It seems that SciFi is just willing to pick up where they left off.
Farscape has ALWAYS been on SciFi, But unlike Sliders, Farscape has a lot of money behind it from Australia, England AND the US. I've never had a problem with the quality.
SG-1 has standing sets, already built, other than that most of their "away missions" take place out in the woods. I don't think it's that expensive a show to produce. The FX are usually minimal (gate, some staff blasts), and most of the artifacts/rooms are fairly prefab. I'd assume it's very affordable for them, especially with its huge popularity. Don't forget SG-1 is ALSO supported by the syndication sponsors.

Jeff, I agree with you. I think SCI-FI has done good by Farscape. Some people can't be pleased. I don't see why SCI-FI wouldn't do a good job with SG-1.

For those of us who watch SG1 in syndication this will cause a small problem. SciFi will start airing the sixth season June 2002 - Jan 2003 before the syndicated fifth season airs Sept 2002 - May 2003.

Have you actually watched any of the new Outer Limits episodes ? ? ? ? ?
I was happy with the show on showtime, it had good stories and was faithful to the original show. Now the best sci-fi episode is just a hollow echo of the worst showtime episode.
I would rather not see this happen to SG1. (Although, worse, it could end up on fox [IMG]

Although I'm extremely happy that there is going to be a season 6, I'm disappointed that I will no longer be able to enjoy it in 5.1. [IMG]

Mike: Are you unhappy with SciFi simply because they ad tons of commercials, or do they actually edit the show and remove footage?
Commercials don't particularly bother me as I'll just skip over them, but changing the actual show would.

    Danny,
It's not the constant barrage of commercials...
I don't think that Sci-Fi maintains the same level of quality of the show, when they get them.
I was torqued about how they trashed Sliders, and the Outer Limits...
I don't want to see SG1 go in the tank like those two shows.

Oh, so you mean that season 6, because Sci-Fi is running it, will not have the same quality as seasons 1-5, right?
How much "oversight" would sci-fi have?

Yes, that's the impression I get based on what has happened before....
I don't know how much 'oversight' it would take them to trash the show.

I enjoy this show on Showtime and I hope SCI-FI does a good job with the 6th Season.
Of course I don't have SCI-FI because my cable company only offers it with their digital cable package but I could always buy the DVDs if the quality of the show and DVDs are good.
