So, I guess there isn't a release date for R1 of the same specs that you listed huh? Sometimes, I hate being in R1. It seems like other regions get more dts titles than we do.

Looks like it's time to start hunting for those region-free fixes for my HTPC. Say, is this R2 going to be in PAL only? Or will Japan (aren't they region 2 but NTSC?) have a version as well?

a page you might want to bookmark to track ALL dts, all regions included.
STARGATE exist thus already for some in Japan, nstc, anamorphic and dts

Oh, man...that's gonna rock. I wish it was gonna be released in August here, though. I hate getting shunned when it comes to Stargate DVD releases.

The UK R2 edition will not arrive until 15 October, when it will be released by Momentum.
Apparently it will be the Director's Cut (124 minutes), and presented in anamorphic 2:35.1 with Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 sound and 11 subtitle tracks.
Extra features will include audio commentary by Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin, trailer, promo reel and photo gallery.
Finally, it will be available in "innovative" pyramid-shaped packaging (oh dear!).

I bought the 16x9/dts R2-japan DVD and it rocks - only downside is that it's the theatrical version not the DC. I'm very tempted to get a malata player for the NTSC->PAL conversion (and the non-anamorphic resizing) but I just got my current multi-region Pioneer DV-343. Anyone wanna buy it from me? :)

I forget-WHAT was the reason given by ARTISAN for not releasing the R1 SG:DC in 16x9 again...?

Where is the best place to order R2 (japan) dvds. I have ordered a few from Sazuma, but I swear I could take a boat to Japan and get them quicker.

I am amazed at this release. I was considering getting the redion 1 artisan release of this movie. I suppose the only thing missing from this version is the seamless branching of the 2 versions. That's one thing you yanks can do that we brits can't. OH! By the way SILENCE OF THE LAMBS IN THE UK IS ANAMORPHIC WIDESCREEN ONLY. Now that's what I like to see. Pan Scan is pretty much DOA in the UK. Very rarely do I see Pan and Scam.

Richard - In answer to your question we are talking about the movie of Stargate, not the TV series.
Bill - You may think that it sucks to live in Region 1, but believe me you have a far wider choice of DVD titles over there. The main advantage to living in UK/R2 is that most TVs are both PAL and NTSC-compatible, which makes multi-region viewing much easier.

I forget-WHAT was the reason given by ARTISAN for not releasing the R1 SG:DC in 16x9 again...?
It was because the extra scenes in the director's cut had been edited on video only because at the time laserdisc was considered the only medium it would ever appear on.
Things have obviously changed since then, but I don't think
Artisan had the $$ to re-edit these scenes on real film. Of course, they could have re-edited them in HDTV res video or at least just 16x9 SD (dvd) res rather than 4x3 SD (what they have already).
The R2 disc may or may not be what it appears. It may be the real thing...or it may be a digitally upsampled 16x9 version of the 4x3 D1. Or it may be a mixture...a real 16x9 transfer of the theatrical film with 16x9 upsampled added scenes for the DC. It will be interesting to see what people have to say about this as it draws nigh.
