The same thing has happened to me when I order on Amazon UK on certain purchases and I never change the settings.

I think the automatic conversion is turned off for pre-orders. I imagine the current Brexit uncertainty is making retailers afraid of locking in a price (not sure where the rate will go in the next few months)

The 4K mastered versions of those titles are on Disney+ currently so you can see now. They look essentially the same as the Blu-rays, though some of the new color timings (presumably the Dolby Vision addition) make the blue screen work seem a little more obvious to me than it did in any prior version.

The thing that struck me rewatching Episodes I-VIII, predominantly on Disney+ in 4K, was how much more AOTC and ROTS stood out as being visually less impressive than the other films, compared to previous home video releases.

It's not just that they were shot in 1080p, it's that they were shot in the early days of HD. Rogue One was shot digitally using Alexa 65 cameras, albeit with vintage Ultra Panavision 70 lenses, and that movie's probably the most beautiful of all of them. Solo is grimy looking, but it doesn't suffer from the resolution, color, and lighting issues that AOTC and ROTS suffer from. ROTS is a bit less problematic than AOTC.

I think both AOTC and ROTS benefitted from being exhibited primarily in 35mm during their original releases. The release prints added some texture back into the image and may have worked better than the discs which are taken from the digital files. It’s been estimated that a 35mm release print has closer to 720p resolution, and I think those prints did a lot to hide the limitations of the 1080p capture and digital designs.

    great news!

I'm hoping to know if the box set and individual disc sets will have any differences.
I know the Uk set is cheaper but the digital codes will not work.

    I’m ready to buy though!!!!

Is anyone else starting to think that they're not going to make that 3/31 street date? We're in the last third of February and still no official announcement? I've seen it suggested that digital will happen 3/31 and physical media on 4/15.

I was actually expecting an announcement this week.

Yeah, I would suppose the street dates are going to be met. Disney usually announces its releases closer to street date than others.

Noticed both Best Buy & Amazon UK do not have a release date on the 9 movie box set yet.
