Funny, I was just going through the bluray yesterday. I realized I never watched any of the special features. There's no commentary or deleted scenes on this one either.

It still blows my mind that McDiarmid was in his mid 30s when ESB was made. I guess I always thought he was in his 50s or 60s then and so was surprised when 40 years later...

That might be the single smartest bit of casting that Lucas did, and that’s saying something given how many great actors he’s worked with.

I believe McDiarmid was only in Return of the Jedi in the original trilogy in 1983. ( “You have done well Lord Vader” ) In 2004 when Lucas remastered the trilogy, he replaced Marjorie Eaton as Sidious with McDiarmid in The Empire Strike Back. :)
