Maybe nothing in the new film is as good as what we've already seen. After all, trailers are supposed to entice us.
---------------

Yes, looking back on the entire journey in a trailer is absolutely no different than many franchises that come to an end.

@AcesHighStudios You don't have to delete it, but you can spoiler-ize it by putting [ spoiler ] and [ / spoiler ] around it. Also, eliminate the spaces around the brackets; I just typed them out to prevent the forum software from actually reading it as a spoiler tag.

Right. Besides, the original plan was for Colin Treverrow to direct Episode IX. When Abrams was directing The Force Awakens, he knew he was going to hand off to Rian Johnson, who would then hand off to Treverrow. At no point during the making of The Force Awakens did Abrams actually think he was going to be the one to finish the trilogy. That only came back around to him after Treverrow was fired.

Then now he can do what he clearly already had in mind.

I remember a creative writing book that spent an entire chapter discussing the “necessary scene,” which is what resolves the story’s conflict and leads to a (hopefully) satisfying conclusion to the tale.

Example: Gunslinger and frightened sheriff square off at high noon. Sheriff finds his courage and defeats the gunslinger.

The book said many writers struggle with the “necessary scene,” and for various reasons. Some fall in love with their story and can’t end it, others literally don’t know how to write an ending, and so they cheat their way around it.

It’s a thing.

Saw a bit that said the third trailer should surface sometime in October, and is expected to be 2:15 in length.

Also read a spoiler, which, if true, gives away the final beats of the film.
Rey and the others are at the Lars homestead. Someone approaches, a local from nearby. He says "We haven't seen anyone out here in many years. Who are you?" And Rey says "I'm Rey. Rey Skywalker." The film ends with Rey and the others watching the twin suns set.

Since Disney usually attaches their trailers to their own movies, it would make sense for this to go with Maleficent, which opens on October 18.

They will probably premiere it during an ABC live broadcast event of some sort where tickets will be released at the conclusion of the trailer, as they did with the previous two saga films - probably during a football game simulcast from ESPN.

Slightly off topic for The Rise of Skywalker, but since we were talking about this in this thread a few pages back and there's nowhere else to put it, Rian Johnson is doing press now for Knives Out and he says he is still working on Star Wars. So this is the latest confirmation that he has not been fired.

And now we return you to The Rise of Skywalker thread already in progress....

(Kinda sucks that the first half of this is all just stuff from the previous movies. TROS part starts at 1:12)

Some reason I was under the impression this was only for D23 & the internet. Had a nice surprise today it played before my screening of Rambo: Last Blood.

The How It Should Have Ended YouTube channel uploaded a funny video set in their recurring Villain Pub location, with the various villains discussing predictions about Palpatine's return. I'm not going to put this in spoiler tags because it's a spoof video with what amounts to fan predictions and there is no evidence that any of this is anything more than an amusing joke, but obviously, if you don't want to hear some guesses, then don't watch it. Personally, I think it's hilarious.
