Hello there, everyone:

I was browsing around ebay today and I found Star Wars episodes 3, 4, & 5 all available on DVD. The last I heard, they were not going to be released until all of the new movies were finished. Was this incorrect? The sellers also went to great lengths to convince prospective buyers that they were not bootlegs or in chinese with subtitles, or worse only P&S!!

Are these DVD's legit? HMV has only Episode One listed.

I would love to pick these up, but I would HATE to get ripped off.

I welcome any light you can shed on these discs.

ALSO: What is a VCD, and will they play in a DVD player?

Thanks a lot

RW

Roy, welcome to the forum!
Don't be fooled my friend, the original 'SW' trilogy is NOT available on dvd yet. I have no clue as to what these people were talking about, but my only guess would be that they are dvd recordings from the SW ld's, but you said they were not bootlegs, so who knows. But no, they are not on dvd just yet, last I heard, Lucas is going to release them in 2006 when the new trilogy is finished. He's creating a whole bunch of new stuff for the original trilogy too that he want's to cut in.

"O: What is a VCD, and will they play in a DVD player?"

I think you answered your question there. They are likely official, authorized VCD releases...intended for sale in Hong Kong only. VCD is about the same quality as VHS tape.

VCD is another way of recoding video. The size is the same size as a CD or DVD. However, the resolution is worst than VHS tape. I think it's only 300+ lines versus DVD of 500+ lines. Because VCD is easily created with any CD Writer, it's easy to pirate movies onto VCD.

Most DVD player can also play VCD.

I have seen several VCD's listed, and I see the differences between them and DVD.
Interesting to say the least. I think I will wait for the real thing...
Thanks for helping gang.

The DVD's in question are indeed bootlegs, and we don't talk about that here...

If you buy those bootlegged discs, your soul will be cast down upon the shores of Hell and you will be burned for all eternity by the lapping flames of hate crashing down upon you from the Ocean of Torment.

The only legal releases are the malasian VCD
You can found it at www.eurekamovies.com . If you use the coupon VCDHELP, you get 10% off.
From what i have heard, the quality is good, and the sound is way better than VHS.

Oh, Hey, Also,

Don't bother with the VCD's, they're crud and coaster material at best..

Audio is fine, but Video is worse then VHS.. Even worse then film!

That does not surprise me.

I can keep myself busy getting the several hundred legit titles I don't have.
