Star Wars: Clone Wars Volume 1 Coming to DVD

The Emmy Award-winning and critically acclaimed Star Wars: Clone Wars micro-series is coming to DVD on March 22, 2005, and here's a first look at the box art of this action-packed release that blends the epic scope of Star Wars with a unique animated style.
Obi-Wan Kenobi fights a messy battle with an alien bounty hunter; Anakin Skywalker engages in an epic lightsaber duel in the decrepit ruins of Yavin 4; Mace Windu single-handedly takes on an entire droid army -- these are some of the unshakable images of micro-series, enjoyed by viewers of the Cartoon Network as well as members of Hyperspace: The Official Star Wars Fan Club.

All 19 three-minute chapters and the five-minute long Chapter 20 of the first round of Star Wars: Clone Wars are gathered together in this release. Directed by Genndy Tartakovsky with Art Direction by Paul Rudish, the Clone Wars series are a fresh, stylized take on Star Wars that remains true to the spirit of the saga. They chronicle some of the epic battles that occur between Episodes II and III as the Clone Wars rage across the galaxy.

Star Wars: Clone Wars Volume 1 debuts on DVD on March 22, 2005. Cartoon Network will host the premiere of the all-new Star Wars: Clone Wars Volume 2 on March 21, one day before the DVD's release. Keep checking starwars.com for the latest developments.

I'm a little disappointed that they couldn't wait until the new episodes were finished, and put them all on the same DVD, for a late 2005 release alongside Revenge of the Sith, but--hey--that's Lucasfilm.

And it comes out the day after the 3rd season starts airing. Funny how those two dates ended up together, ain't it? ;)

I'm not complaining, though. I'm glad these are coming out, and before the previously mentioned Easter date (although not by much).

So let's see, the last two animated DVDs were 3 hours each and $10 each. So this 1 hour of entertainment should cost us about 3 to 4 bucks, right? ;)

I'm not too surprised that this is coming out at the same time as the third season of episodes is premiering and also just before Episode III. It makes sense, since it has the first appearance of General Grievous
in the series prior to the film.

Any word on extras at this point?

Well the commentaries by the director that were online are a given, right?

Will the 20 episodes be spliced together to form a one hour cartoon "movie"? Or will we get 20 "individual" cartoons? I'm hoping they'll edit it all together to make it seamless.

I can't wait for this DVD! I heard about it and downloaded a few of the cartoons off the net. They are great! The ones I downloaded are spread out over the season so I missed most of the story. I will fill in all the blanks with the DVD. I got chills watching some of Anakin's fighting towards the end of the season. They mixed in some strong episode 1 references that where awesome. Can't wait!

According to The Digital Bits, included will be "fan commentary".

I hope these fans are well chosen, articulate individuals. I can just hear The Simpsons' Comic Book Guy now: "Worst...episode...ever!"

Sounds much more feature-packed than I'd originally thought! I wish they'd go with a 5.1 sound option, though, to have it fit in with the other Star Wars DVDs. Otherwise, count me in! :)

No 5.1. :frowning: But hey, at least we get the pretty FBI warning on the cover. It appears to have migrated from just CDs.

Anywho, complaints aside, all the artwork looks really nice. Can't wait to own it!

Yeah I can't wait either. I guess Season 3 will probably come out when Ep III comes out on DVD.

Looking forward to this one. This was a great series -- although perhaps the diminished expectations from previous Lucasfilm animated shows helped.

I really enjoyed it too. It did take me awhile to get used to the animation style but after that it was a really fun watch.
