Hello - I thought Paramount did a really nice job with the Star Trek IV CE DVD. The documentary on the film was great with the inclusion of all the footage of them shooting the film, alternate takes, etc.
Has anyone heard what the extras will be for V? Has anyone heard a released date for V?
I'm also looking forward to VI. Any idea if this will be a Director's or Collector's edition? Will it be out by the end of 2003?
    Thanks for posting!!

Well, since Paramount scrapped the idea of shatner re-editing V, I can't imagine many people buying this... For what? The documentaries? To hear Shatner bitch that he didn't get the dough or time he needed...?

    What a mistake...

I just hope Undiscovered Country has the correct ratio on it. I think they're doing a new anamorphic transfer on it, so that should be fixed.

I know I'm in the minority, but I liked #5. I'll be getting it (I would have loved a directors cut though).

#6 is one of my absolute favourites so I'll be getting it too. [IMG]

I hope they do Trek VI right. They need have the proper aspect ratio regardless of the benefits that opening up the top and bottom gives. The director's cut and theatrical cut should be included because the original dvd was only the director's or extended cut so we need the theatrical cut on DVD. They need to really let Trek VI shine on dvd given it was the last outing for the original series entire crew.

Not only does VI need the correct a.r. but it (the image) needs to be centered vertically on the screen. I believe it had problems with the captions on widescreen displays as a result of this too.

ditto, VI was the last Trek movie I liked, still probably won't get it though even though Plummer put in a wonderful performance. I loved the way he twirled around in his chair during the battle. [IMG]

the director's cut features them pulling the mask off the assassin to show that it's actually a human

It's unfortunate that Shatner can't redo his film, although I don't think it could help. It really is terrible.

V I'll skip, and just go straight to VI. It'll look weird without V, but I'm sure anybody would understand the gap.

Also, I have to agree about Plummer in VI. He was awesome, the best villian, even better than Khan.

There's also some extra character moments as well as an expanded sequence with the Federation President and Rene Auberjonois' character as contingency war plans are discussed.

Hmm. I think different prints might have been sent to different theaters. Though it was 12 years ago, I remember my father pointing out to me during the briefing scene that Rene Auberjonois was in M*A*S*H and people hearing me give a loud "shush" to him (my father loves to do stuff like that during a movie). I also recall the unmasking scene.

I wouldn't be surprised if Paramount briefly released a cut version on VHS around the time DS9 came out so there wouldn't be any confusion about Auberjonois' role on the show.

Lastly, if you watch the theatrical trailer, there is clearly a scene missing from any and all incarnations of the film: the Federation President meeting Chancellor Azetbur at the peace conferance before it begins.

There could be some stupid SAG reason behind this, like he wasn't paid or something.
