Hello - Just wondering if anyone has heard a street date and what extras will be included on the Star Trek V Collector's Edition DVD.
I know there is disappointment about a new version not being done, but I just want to know what WILL be on it.
Thanks for posting!

The Digital Bits says that Paramount is working on it. Since it's taken so long, I think we shouldn't count out a new version till the official specs are released. :)

Hopefully a release date and extras will be announced soon.
I'm looking forward to the release of this title.

Hopefully he'll spend the whole commentary apologising.
You mean even more than he already has? :rolleyes

How about doing the right thing and letting him go back and fix up the scenes that he's wanted to fix since before the movie was even released?

But that's another thread ...

Yes, Shatner said at the end of the commentary on part IV that he was looking forward to doing a commentary for V, so we know there is one planned.

Unless Paramount screws him out of that as well.

If they do, I want a bouncing-ball icon atop the lyrics. Or the icon could be shaped like the Enterprise.

I hate to sound pessimistic but I wouldn't be surprised if Paramount censors some of the commentary or interviews so certain parties (the studio, Roddenberry, etc.) aren't portrayed in a bad light.
We'll probably never know for sure what did and did not make it to the final commentary edit, but I wouldn't be too worried about it. Paramount has consistently posted disclamers regarding the content of commentaries/interviews that appear on their DVDs not necessarily expressing the opinions of the studio and it's interested parties.

FYI, Shatner wanted to go back and re-edit and enhance the original CGI, while redoing the ending of the film that he wanted. However the suits at Paramount refused to let him do this because they didn't want to spend any more money on what they considered a "turkey of a movie", so alas, we'll only get the original cut of the film.

True. However, I have read (several places) that the documentaries on the ST: TMP disc were edited to avoid any major bashing of Paramount, Michael Eisner, and Gene Roddenberry. It's not the end of the world, of course, but there are a couple jarring edits and the whole thing just rings hollow. This was before they started adding disclaimers, though. But that's just me.
