I thought I read somewhere that they were not going to bring back cast members just as a cameo for an old fan favorite. They said that if they were bringing back characters, there had to be a valid reason in the storytelling.

They sold this as more than a warm-and-fuzzy reunion show.

Entirely possible. I stayed away from all articles and interviews to avoid spoilers leading up to the first episode.

Ok, so it wasn't just me who thought episode 5 was a waste of resources? :)

As of right now, you're not alone. That can easily change depending on the rest of the season. But in a vacuum, yes. Silly waste of resources.

    So irrelevant.
Its like screaming at the sky.

The bad writing on any ST show was at monumental levels, depending on the episode and the season.

It's also a total old school mindset that doesn't take into account the amount of time we have with a 10 episode season to spend on backstory when we already burned 30% of the season before we hit space.

It's a knee-jerk reaction at this point without knowing how the rest of the season will go.

Is it time to change the thread title?

Sure. Talking about any episode of any show by itself is a knee jerk reaction without knowing where the rest of the season is going to go. That's how this works. If the episode is good enough, it can stand on its own and stand in the context of the larger story. Problem is, for me, this one wasn't good for different reasons.

I started this thread, but didn’t think I had editing privileges to change the title! I was just able to do that. Hope you like the revised title. :)

Not bad, except other countries don’t get it on CBS all Access.

I came upon this piece by Michael Chabon from November, in which he writes about writing his Short Trek episode and writing ST: Picard while sitting with his dying father in a hospital room. His knowledge of and love for Star Trek is considerable. I found the piece insightful and more than a bit heartbreaking. Don't miss it.

New episode is up! At 54 minutes, it’s the longest of the season so far. I continue to savor every moment.

I just caught up with the previous episode (Seven was fantastic, loved seeing her again). And I just watched "The Impossible Box". I think the Narek, and Soji story is great. I felt really bad for Soji (and Narek) this episode. Elnor is my favorite comic relief of the show. His blunt/awkward persona is appreciated. And he is tough as nails, so cool.
How great this show is, I'm just loving each and every episode.

Tremendous episode this week. I love that Picard (the character) is only one of my favorite things about the series. The rest of the cast is so good, and so interesting, that the entire hour flies by.

Also, not sure if this picture was shared here before, but I will spoilerize it anyway:

As you can see, Elnor is not with them (nor is Hugh).

The character of Picard is written so well. Perfect in fact.
I hope that this is released on Blu-Ray, or even better 4K disc! I plan to re-watch this series a lot. To be honest I haven't felt this good about Star Trek since watching TNG first run.
