Looks good. August 6 is shaping up to be an expensive day.

Star Trek 2: SE

Lord of the Rings

Simpsons Season 2 (or has that slipped yet again?)

just to name a few.

Hmm...no Shatner/Nimoy commentary as was rumored plus 4 extra minutes of content in the film. Sounds great anyway.:)

I will be picking this up for sure. The 24.95 price is even nicer for a 2 disc set...cheaper the the original 1 disc. Hopefully these director's editions will continue throughout the series.

No theatrical cut? This was a very good movie to start with. Didn’t need any tampering. I have to keep my original DVD then.

This should have been the theatrical cut of the film, but Meyer waffled at the last minute.

WHY do you want it w/o Peter Preston? Those are 2 very powerful scenes, and I have a very hard time watching the movie without them

I hope that Paramount will fix that 1 frame glitch when the Enterprise fires on the Reliant in the nebula.

The set doesn't mention anything about cut scenes being included in the supplement. Do you think Nicholas Meyer put all of the cut stuff back into the film? What about the shots of the child aboard the Botany Bay and then later on the Reliant just before it blows up? I hope Paramount gets this disc right.

I hope Meyer's involvement in ST:II is a signal of his involvement in the ST:VI S.E.

Can someone tell me what the differences are between the theatrical cut and the directors cut? What scenes are added or removed? Thanks!

Marc.

Yes Scott, a child. (paraphrasing TMP there, I know)

I've seen photographs in "RetroVision" magazine of a child being among Khans people. The first one was him looking outside a window of the Botany Bay on Ceti Alpha 5. The other one was of the kid standing on the transporter pad next to the Genesis Torpedo, after Khan had started the countdown. It was the only place I've ever seen them. I don't even think this aspect of the story made it into the novelization.

Perhaps, the audio commentaries, with Shatner and Nimoy, were never going to be actual screen specific audio commentaries, but rather pieced together from an interviews. The specs state there will be interviews with both gentlemen so maybe Paramount couldn't put together a repestable commentary from the interviews. Also, the specs could be incomplete or wrong. I have a feeling that all the ST S.E.s will be director's editions. That would be easy to do with involvement from Nimoy, Shatner, Meyer, Franks, and whomever directed Generations.

Regarding the cover, I'm not so sure I actually like the cover. I mean it doesn't look bad, but just doesn't fit Star Trek II.
