Do they plan on re-releasing this film as a Special Edition just like most of the older Star Trek features? It seems like I heard something about it but can't quite remember.

Thanks. Do you know if it will have deleted scenes?

I don't know that much about it.
I just know that the rumour is that it'll be out next year probably.

Given that in 2004 we're getting 2-disc versions of Star Trek VI and Generations, and given the fact that the 2-disc sets are ratioed at two films per year, I couldn't see a First Contact SE coming out any earlier than 2005.

As for deleted scenes, I don't know of any off-hand. There's probably not any that I'm aware of. So we'll most likely get a new audio commentary from Jonathan Frakes, the requisite textual commentary from the Okudas, new behind-the-scenes featurettes on the making of the film, the design of the Enterprise-E, the creation of the Borg Queen, the theatrical teaser and trailer, storyboards of scenes, and who knows what else. One of the better HBO First Look specials was on the making of First Contact in that they had some meat to it on the makeup and visual FX, so I wouldn't mind seeing that on the DVD as well.

Too bad this won't be here until 2005. Besides Generations, it's the only TNG film I'm looking forward to.

The DVD set will contain a new audio commentary from actor/director Jonathan Frakes and screenwriters Brannon Braga and Ronald D. Moore and a textual commentary by Michael and Denise Okuda.

In addition, the bonus disk for the DVD set will include these featurettes: "The STAR TREK Universe" (a collection of programs such as "Jerry Goldsmith: A Tribute", "The Legacy of Zefram Cochrane" and "First Contact: The Possibilities"), "The Borg Collective" (featuring "Unimatrix One", "The Queen" and "Design Matrix"), "FIRST CONTACT Production" (featuring "The Story", "The Missle Silo", "The Deflector Dish", "From "A" to "E", "Making FIRST CONTACT" and "The Art of FIRST CONTACT"), "Scene Desconstruction" (featuring "Borg Queen Assembly", "Escape Pod Launch" and "Borg Queen's Demise"), extensive storyboards, a production gallery, and the film's theatrical teaser and trailer. No deleted scenes will be include this time.

It would be nice if they could slip that Generations trailer in there as an Easter Egg. I won't hold my breath. Looks like that will be the only movie without the trailer. I'm looking forward to the commentary.

Let's hope that they give us a stellar transfer reminiscent of Undiscovered Country (as opposed to the abominable job on Generations)...

Oh, Aaron, any number of TNG episodes are better than this movie. I mean, several. ("The Inner Light," "The Best of Both Worlds," "Yesterday's Enterprise," etc., etc.)

DTS? Or was that just to ease the pain of the "Generations" transfer?

I really want to watch my other TNG DVD's, but I'm still missing seasons 2 and 3, the only seasons I couldn't pick up for less than $60. Have all the others. Hope they don't rot away before I get to watch them through.

    Can't wait!

To me, this has been the only worthy Next Generation movie. Generations and especially Insurrection have been not only bad Star Trek movies, but just plain bad movies in general. I had low expectations for Nemesis and it did surpass them slightly.

I agree. It's a shame that the other Next Generation crew movies were so poor, but I'm grateful that at least one of them got everything right. I believe First Contact captured the spirit of the show while expanding on its scope the same way that the best of the first 6 Star Trek movies did. It's not only my favourite Star Trek movie, but also one of my favourite movies ever. I've never been more excited about a movie DVD release than I am about this one.
