'Standby' Light Blinking on Sony 34" CRT HDTV (1 Viewer)

My brother-in-law's 2 year old CRT went dark during viewing, and now only the standby light blinks- no picture, no sound.
I had him unplug the set for 5 minutes- no change. He gets no display when cycling through the video inputs.

Any thoughts on this, other than calling in a service person? Thanks...

The set is in blanking/shutdown. For microprocessor lockups it is necessary to unplug (not just turn off) for at least an hour to clear them.

Other than that, any failure in any circuit can cause the problem; from nuisance to catastrophic. You will probably need a servicer, sorry.
