The Pioneer with "MCACC" unfortunately was still in its box. The Panasonic had just come out of its cardboard shipping device--it was still on the floor. It was the XR-SA25 (I think that's the correct letters) and it was priced at $299.99.
Looks: if you've seen the DVD-S35 dvd player, then you have (almost) seen this receiver. Except it's bottom half is black and its deeper. Remote: same but bigger. Receiver has 5" wide X 1/16" lighted blue strip in the middle. Dimmer button turns it off. Some chrome buttons & volume knob. Very minimalist front--but not cheap looking or anything.
Features: from reading the front panel, it's got DTS-ES/Neo:6 & DPL II.
Has 6-channel digital amp & no ventilation slots on top either.
(A sort of related factoid: they had a new JVC progressive player too. Almost had the Panasonic's styling except it was all jet black & slightly rounded (very slick looking) and the loading tray's front lip has a soft blue light too! How come Panny's own DVD-S35 doesn't have that?!)
