Newbie here need advice.... I want to be able to switch channel while recording from another channel.

This is what I have now. Digital Cable from Wall --> Cable box --> Tivo --> TV.

From what I read, I think I can split the cable after the cable box : one plugs into Tivo, the other directly onto the TV.

The thing is, I also plan to upgrade to S Video connecting between cable box and Tivo and TV. Should I use a S Video splitter? Or should I forget about S Video and just split the regular cable?

I hope my question make sense. Thanks.

You want to record something and watch something else? The only real option is to split the cable before the box and you can get analog channels using your tv tuner and continue using your tivo normally otherwise. Make sure you get a decent splitter.
