USA Today also features a piece on the Spiderman DVD in today's newspaper. The opening of the text reads:

"This year's biggest box office hit to date could become the biggest DVD release ever. Spider-Man will be issued on a two-disc DVD set Nov. 1, featuring a web-full of extras including a making-of special, music videos, screen tests, bloopers, and comic book archives."

Differing from the prior pieces excerpted in this thread, the USA Today piece states that "A collector's box set will also be released that includes a reprint of Marvel's Amazing Fantasy #15, the 1962 comic that introduced Spider-Man."

I wonder which poster will be featured on the box set edition! :D
Seriously, unless the reprint is something special (hardcover or material inside that cross-references the themes/scenes in the movie against the themes/scenes in the origin issue), I can pass on this one. easily. You can get a good reprint cheaply at any time.
It's an interesting box set idea in that they are steeping the consumer in not just the history of the film, but the character.

Here's the details about the Collector's Set, from the official press release, as provided by DVD File;
Also available day and date will be a specially-packaged limited-edition Collector's DVD Gift Set featuring the widescreen special edition Spider-Man DVD and loaded with extras including a reprint of Marvel Comic's "Amazing Fantasy" #15 in which Spider-Man was created; an exclusive collectible drawing by former Spider-Man artist John Romita, Sr. and current Spider-Man artist John Romita, Jr.; a collectible numbered film cel from the movie; and more.
Sounds like a E.T./Matrix style set, but without the soundtrack or script.

John Romita, Sr. is my favorite of all the Spidey artists, but I'll probably stick with the standalone widescreen. Still, it sounds like a nice third option, and I'll wait to see what it looks like.

SPIDER-MAN
>From Columbia Pictures Presents, A Marvel Enterprises/Laura Ziskin
Production, Spider-Man is a live-action feature of one of the world's most
popular comic book superheroes. Directed by Sam Raimi, Spider-Man centers
on student Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) who, after being bitten by a
genetically-altered spider, gains superhuman strength and the spider-like
ability to cling to any surface. He vows to use his abilities to fight
crime, coming to understand the words of his beloved Uncle Ben: "With great
power comes great responsibility."
The journey of Spider-Man, from comic book to celluloid began in 1962 when
the character first appeared in the final issue of the failing "Amazing
Fantasy" comic book. It was such a hit that "Amazing Fantasy" was renamed
"Amazing Spider-Man" and reappeared in 1963. Since then, the web of 'not
for the faint of heart' readers, fans and collectors worldwide has grown
into making Spider-Man one of the most popular superheroes among the young,
old, women and men. And now, 40 years later, with great power and great
responsibility, the tale of Spider-Man jumps from the screen into the home
on DVD and VHS for the whole family to enjoy.

There are several scenes that were shot specifically intended to be DVD Easter eggs. I don't believe anything was really cut out of the movie that would warrant inclusion tho.
I think the Stan Lee scene that was cut warrants an inclusion. :)

I wonder what will be in the gift set. If it doesn't end up being too expensive, I'll definitely get it. :)

It wasn't cut, he's in the movie when Times Square blows up. It's only about a second and a half but he's there. Just like with X-Men (he's on the beach)
Oh, and GAG REEL! Good job Columbia! Gag Reels are worth major points in my book ;)

I hate those WideScreen bars. I dont care for FullScreen bars since i'll never buy FS. I wish they never put "WideScreen Edition" again.

This is definately a big priority on my list, and I'm gonna need to be saving my birthday money if I want to survive through this brutal November.

Does anyone remember the aspect ratio of this film?

Yeah, if it doesn't say "FULLSCREEN EDITION" in huge letters across the top, we should be able to assume it's widescreen.

I just wanted to point out that releasing it on November 1st is a great idea. That means after your done trick or treating (Halloween is Oct. 31) you can go get in line for the midnight release.
I work in the promotions department at a radio station cluster here in Tulsa and I've already got a video store interested in us doing a live broadcast that night as they gear up to sell the movie. This is gonna be huge.
