The latest rumor is that Sadie Sink is playing:
May "Mayday" Parker, who will be the daughter of Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man and Kirsten Dunst's Mary Jane Watson.

One one hand, I think Sink would make a great Spider-Girl and she looks like she could be the child of Maguire and Dunst. I can also see why Sony would want this, since they could then make a bunch of Spider-Girl movies in the Raimi Spider-Man universe without having to give Marvel Studios a cut of the action.

On the other hand, I'm really hoping this will be a back to basics Spider-Man movie without all of that multiverse hoopla. And her playing a character that Sony owns the rights to means that future opportunities for her to pop up within the MCU are limited: Probably Secret Wars and maybe Doomsday, and that's it.

None of the Spider-Man films using MCU characters have ever included the debut of a Disney owned character. The "loans" Disney has given Sony have all been characters previously established within Disney's films. I would be surprised if she is playing a Disney-owned character.

Also, Doomsday is shooting now in London. Sadie Sink is in New York starring in John Proctor is the Villain on Broadway through July 6. She is the above-the-title star and not likely to be out of it to shoot a movie. So if she was going to appear in Doomsday, her shooting schedule would need to be coordinated to come after the show closes.

I hope Marvel has figured out a way to integrate characters from television series in a smoother fashion for people who didn't watch the shows. Some of their other films have struggled with that.

Matt Murdock in No Way Home made sense, but that was a brief cameo and he was only functioning as Peter's lawyer. That would have been easy enough to understand because anybody could have been Peter's lawyer.

It seems Jon Bernthal is confirmed for this, which is great. There are also a lot of reports saying Mark Ruffalo will appear as the Hulk in a sizable role.

We will surely get more reports as production begins, which is supposed to happen next month.

This is getting a very 70s vibe for me, with the presence of Spider-Man and the Hulk (Marvel’s most popular characters in the 70s) and The Punisher, who debuted in an issue of Spider-Man in the 70s and was a frequent recurring character. I think that will somehow be refreshing.

One possible hitch here: Sadie Sink is currently starring in John Proctor is the Villain on Broadway, which was recently extended through August 31. It is possible that production could start without Sink with any scenes that she is not in. But it sounds like she will have a major role, and they won't have access to her until the show ends. She is the above the title star in John Proctor. The producers aren't going to let her out to go film a movie.

Where?

I haven't seen the trades report this yet.

We know that Disney's deal with Sony to share Spider-Man in team-up films like Avengers includes Disney loaning Sony characters from the MCU for the Spider-Man installments. Sony has gotten at least one major character in each of the previous films: Iron Man in Homecoming, "Nick Fury" in Far From Home and Doctor Strange in No Way Home. Disney owns The Punisher, but I don't think he is as prominent as the others Sony has had before. So it would make sense if Sony also got a more recognizable character such as the Hulk who could be prominently featured in the marketing campaign. However, the Hulk specifically might be tricky because of the situation with Universal. It won't be shocking if Hulk shows up, but I'll believe it when it is officially confirmed.

She was already signed to this movie when John Proctor is the Villain got extended, so I would imagine that this production would have had to sign off on it.

You are very likely correct. It's also possible that her original contract for John Proctor specifically built in the possibility of extension and the producers decided to exercise it. I don't know. But if that's the case, Sony would have known the extension was a possibility. This is just a guess.

Thanks for pointing that out. That being the case, it does seem like she is leaving in order to go shoot Spider-Man. If filming on the movie starts in July and Sony wants to keep the current release date, the film will need to be completed in less than a year.

Considering that Sadie Sink's presence has been used as a marketing tool to sell John Proctor, it will be interesting to see how the show does without her in terms of its box office performance.

That's interesting. I wonder what they need in Glasgow? The fact that it is only for two weeks suggests to me that they want to get something specific there, rather than having it pose as NYC and doing the whole film there (I expect the majority of this to be done in Atlanta where Marvel has shot many films.)

But it seems unlikely that Peter could go to Scotland right now given where we left him in the previous film. He no longer has the connections to people like Happy or Tony, who could have financed such a trip. Theoretically, Strange could open a portal to Scotland, but he doesn't remember Peter either. And going to Europe didn't exactly work out for Peter when he went to Europe in Far From Home.
