What troubles me is that this is not the first time Marvel has attached Cretton to something else. The same thing could be said about The Kang Dynasty, which Cretton was also attached to direct. They don't seem very interested in Shang-Chi 2, even though the first one is their biggest new character film since Endgame.I agree that I’d like to see Shang-Chi 2 sooner rather than later, but giving Cretton this assignment is a huge validation of his work, and recognition of his talents.
I’m surprised Sony was able to be persuaded to wait as long as they did. They have been doing Spider-Man films every 2-3 years since 2002. This one will hit theaters more than 4 1/2 years after the last. I think that’s a good thing, but the Sony people are probably antsy.
Also, seeing how it’s coming so soon after a big crossover film, I think the chances of a street-level movie are small. Which is too bad, because I really wanted to see a movie featuring the Kingpin and Daredevil.
You are essentially right, but it wasn't for No Way Home. The "ticking clock" arrangement where Sony would lose the rights due to inactivity was removed when Sony and Disney made the deal to put Spider-Man in the MCU. It was long enough ago that I don't remember where I read this, but I remember reading it. Disney conceded that to Sony in order to share the character for Civil War and the Avengers films.they did away with that contract provision for having to release films frequently to keep the rights.
I think that's selling Pascal a little short. She doesn't have a perfect track record and she has been involved in some bad movies before. But the same is true for Kevin Feige and practically any big player in Hollywood. She has also contributed to some great movies that did not involve Feige at all.I’m glad Kevin Feige is involved because I don’t have any faith in Amy Pascal to produce a good story.
I trust Pascal a lot more than Tom Rothman.I’m glad Kevin Feige is involved because I don’t have any faith in Amy Pascal to produce a good story.
I really, really, really hope that they don't bring Maguire and Garfield back in this. It worked for No Way Home because it had never been done before and there was a story worth telling. I wouldn't mind seen them pop up again in Secret Wars. But Holland's Spidey deserves his own movie. Just repeating what worked the last time isn't a recipe for long-term success. Here we go with this again.

Andrew Garfield Denies ‘Spider-Man 4’ Casting Reports
Although Spider-Man is preparing for another MCU outing, Andrew Garfield is staying tight-lipped about whether he'll return for the next movie.deadline.com
Part of the reason No Way Home worked so well for me is because it gave closure to Maguire and Garfield's versions of Peter. Neither one of them had that before because their final solo films were not originally intended to be their final films. Although I very much appreciated seeing them again in No Way Home, I think that film completed their stories. I would be satisfied with where No Way Home ended things for them if we never see them again. If they do come back for something in the future, it would need to be equally substantial or it's not worth doing. I don't want them to pop by for a quick cameo.Just repeating what worked the last time isn't a recipe for long-term success.
The fact that it has been done before is also why Garfield would have less reason to lie about it for this movie. Obviously, he can't say anything Sony doesn't want him to say. But because they've done it before, bringing Maguire and Garfield back wouldn't really be a surprise anymore. They would simply be showing up in a direct sequel to another movie in which they showed up. So it wouldn't be worth all of the extra effort from last time to hide their participation. Sony actually demonstrated some restraint last time by not including them in the trailers. But next time I think the marketing team would go ahead and use them in the marketing if they do make an appearance. It worked for No Way Home because it had never been done before
