Anyone else watch this last night? Underwhelmed is how I'd describe it. Can't say I noticed all that much different added to this cut.

A lame recap of the first movie tacked on to the beginning and some additional lines during Peter and MJ's conversation outside Aunt May's and a different shot of Peter entering his apartment building. Those stood out to me. Nothing extra with the 'chocolate' cake girl. :frowning:

The filmmakers did not have access to the necessary Betty Crocker cake recipe at the time. In the last 2-1/2 years, cake technology has advanced to the point that one can include both chocolate cake and chocolate frosting in the same confection. Finally, they can present Spiderman 2 as they originally envisioned it.:P

That's weird, they already had a perfectly good recap in the opening credits (in the form of comic book like drawings). Why would they add an additional recap?

I too find the extended cut really disappointing, just minor extensions that weren't needed in the first place. I watched it mainly to see if there was going to be slightly-extended versions of the runaway train sequence and the climax at the dock, but all of them were as they were shown theatrically. (Sam Raimi said that they were going to add in ten seconds more of those sequences for the extended edition in an interview, but I guess it didn't pan out.)

Ugh. If Sony wanted to entice me to double-dip on this particular title, this extended version isn't worth the time or effort.

If you haven't bought S2 yet (and haven't seen the FX extended edition), don't buy the extended edition when it's released. Buy the 2-disc SE or the Superbit instead. They're cheaper and you won't feel cheated out of your money.

I too saw this and basically saw a few extended scenes that made me realize why they were trimmed in the first place. Unless the dvd has some scenes beyond that, no sale. Actually, I own the Superbit and am quite happy with it, but for those that have never bought it, have fun.

I enjoyed this movie but unless the disc has alot more special features than it appears to have or it comes with a free ticket for Spider-Man 3 and a real low price, I think once will be enough for me.

Why does this exist, exactly? A whole new DVD for 8 minutes worth of new footage? When I heard it announced I thought it was Spiderman 1 with the Twin Towers footage re-insterted, which could have been interesting, but it's just minor changes... Did Sam Raimi have a burning desire to see his "ultimate vision" committed to DVD? Were these 8 minutes keeping him awake at night?

In short: Why should I, or indeed, anyone want to watch this version of Spider-Man 2?

That footage should never be "re-inserted" because it was shot specifically for the trailer and never intended to be included within the movie itself.

I believe I recall Sam Raimi saying he had nothing to do with that trailer anyway. It was shot by another unit.

The cut that premiered on FX wasn't the extended cut. It only had maybe a minute worth of new footage. Last week, online, I read a description (I forget what website it was) of what is actually in the cut and it's mostly extended parts to the two fights with Ock and a few other things here and there (ie, the joke in the elevator has been recut differently not to last as long as the theatrical cut). The FX cut was not the entire thing.

As a matter of fact, some one posted a commercial for it on youtube.com that had some shots of the extended fight sequences. Plus, apparently, they went back a remastered the film as well....

the new james bond movie casino royale has a trailer for the spider-man 2.1 extended edition cut. they show footage from the new cut including more stuff with the train, the fight in a building (when spidey and doc ock are fighting after the bank). they show some other stuff.. they also include the theatre trailer for spidey 3 on the casino royale dvd.. both on disc 1 and disc 2.

Good to know it's on both discs, that way I can leave one disc at home and keep the other one with me and still watch a trailer for another film whenever I want. Also, I'm glad it's on the first disc, because I was worried that they might waste that extra space on something stupid like higher video bitrate, a DTS track, or even a worthless audio commentary.

I'm happy to see Sony still has their priorities straight.

Well said. The longest extra on the Casino Royale set doesn't even focus exclusively on that film, but various Bond girls from the series.

Just watched the trailer for this extended cut on YouTube. Those additional action beats do look pretty spectacular.
