Robert beat me to it. I already have the other films that I like, but Holiday has been on my wishlist for a long time, but I'd hate to have to rebuy those other films to get it.

Are these going to be re-releases of the current versions or is there going to be new transfers for "Only Angels Have Wings", "His Girl Friday", & "The Awful Truth"? I already have the first two, but if there is going to be new transfers or bonus materials, I'll double-dip and go in for the whole boat. Otherwise, I'll have to pass.

Adding my voice to the chorus, sign me up for Holiday if it is a separate release. Otherwise, I'll stick with the copy I have saved on my Tivo from TCM.

Holiday is one of my most anticipated titles! This set is great news, since so many of Columbia's classic titles (the four listed here included) are ridiculously over-priced! Will there be new individual releases, or will it be a thin-pack release?

Seems like as good a time as any to mention that a Judy Holliday set including the unreleased Full of Life and Phffft! would be most welcome!

It sounds like in at least the case of His Girl Friday, this release will have fewer supplements than the original release.

I wonder when we'll see some pictures?

It looks like at least one of the other major studios are starting utilize the Warners model for classic releases. [IMG]

I passed on the original Columbia releases because of their high prices so this collection would be most welcome for this Cary Grant fan. I do hope that Holliday is released separately for those who only need that film.

Only the Talk Of The Town is one that I don't know about. I think I have seen it before[hmmmmm]. The rest are Howard Hawkes + the Awful Truth which won Leo Mccary an Oscar for Best Director. I'm a Hawks fan so this set is a must for me. Oh! Holiday is a George Cukor and is a favorite of mine. I just wish there was an Audio commentary track on some of these disks. [IMG]
Lets hope Columbia repackages Mr. Smith Goes To Washington and It Happened One Nightlike this.

The original disc of His Girl Friday had a commentary by Hawks biographer Todd McCarthy and some brief featurettes on the stars and director. I'm hoping that these will in fact be carried over (the press release may be only mentioning the newly-produced special features), because while I want this set, I would prefer to be able to sell my old discs in order to get it.

I won't even consider looking at this set until I see reviews and know previous content is carried over, quality is good, and this is a worthy purchase.

It is obvious that as their library is drying up (unless they decide to WHAT'S BUZZIN' COUSIN? [IMG] , SONY is trying to use one title to lure re-purchasing of their over-priced, sometimes lackluster quality releases.

I would love to purchase HOLIDAY, but I already have most of the other titles, which were over-priced to begin with.

Is this just a ploy of the Blu-Ray boys to try and squeeze extra money out of the traditional DVD buyer?

With the exception of MGM (which they now control), no other home video had less respect and showed more ignorance to the DVD buyer than SONY (nee Columbia-Tri Star). Lest we forget their Pan & Scan "anniversary" edition of ANNIE?

As others have pointed out, they (like Fox and Uni) are trying to try and scam off the Warner strategies on classics...obviously too late in the game.

I hope consumers are given the option of purchasing HOLIDAY as a single release at a reasonable price, and in a decent transfer. (I've never seen a decent transfer of this film).

The current single-disc of "The Awful Truth" has a brief but crucial bit of film missing that virtually cripples one of the best gags in the film - at the night club, with the various principals sitting around a table exchanging significant glances. The bit of film, which shows the crowning, gag-capping glance, is present on the old laserdisc, albeit partially damaged, but is snipped entitely on the DVD. The scene plays amusingly, but once you know the peak to which the scene originally played, seeing it truncated is a terrible letdown. Be nice if they could fix that.

Well if they were fix The Awful Truth, or provide improved pq on Talk of the Town, then I'd go for the box. But assuming it's just the existing dvds bundled with Holiday, I'll wait til Holiday is available separately.

Has anyone received any reviewer copes yet?

I am curious as to what is really included with these films. The press release does not mention commentaries, but Amazon indicates there are commentaries included, but it does not say which film's have them.

Plus if the films receive new transfers, (including the aforementioned missing footage from The Awful Truth), I will purchase the box.
