I put this in my Amazon shopping cart. I definitely will be buying, but I hope the price comes down a little by release date.

For those who care about aspect ratio, the news coming out elsewhere (and supposedly in the press release soon) is that 4K will be 1.33:1, Blu-ray will be 1.78:1.

Oh well. No sale for me, I hope the people who have been looking forward to this enjoy it in whatever format they choose. I know how happy I was to see I Love Lucy pop up last month, so I know the thrill of seeing a long awaited show finally hit HD physical media.

That's interesting that the DVD set has the later season episodes in 16:9. I bought the single season DVD sets season by season when they were originally released from 2004 to 2007 and the all of the episodes are in the originally broadcast 4:3 ratio (which I very much prefer).
Unless they quietly re-released them in the last few years, the DVDs are all 4:3.

That's a weird one. I'm going for the UHD and since it's a "limited edition", I'll be pre-ordering. Yep, I'm a sucker.

I wonder if the insanely detailed text commentaries will be on there? Those things were goldmines of pointless info for fans.

That's what I always assumed too, and as I noted the individual season sets I bought back in 2004-2007 are all 4:3. Apparently there was a full series box set re-issue in 2013 so maybe something changed there? I'm just speculating and just glad my DVD's are all OAR.

I’m surprised more people aren’t over the moon about this. Maybe you had to be there. Complete Seinfeld in 4K? Incredible! I wouldn’t have bought the cropped version, but I’ve placed my order for the UHD set in glorious 4:3.

I can’t speak for anyone else but for me, Seinfeld has always been easily available - it was syndicated at least 2x a day where I lived when new episodes were still airing and never stopped, and has always been included in a streaming subscription I’ve had. So it’s not that I don’t think it’s great that it’s coming on BD and UHD, but it’s never been unavailable to me which decreases any sense of urgency I might feel about getting it.

My love for the show, the 4:3 aspect ratio and especially the limited edition nature of the UHD got me to place my order. If not for that last one, I would have waited for a sale.

I guess you could call me a double sucker. I actually DO like what they did with this series. I enjoy watching the Widescreen versions, so I'm happy they decided to release them on Blu-Ray. I've gotten so use to seeing them on TV and streaming that way I honestly wouldn't know how to act seeing them in 4:3 anymore now if they popped up on TV that way.

BUT, on the other hand the originalist side of me likes the ability to have the original versions in 4:3 in 4K, so I'll most likely pick up the "Limited Edition" too. If nothing else it is likely to have a strong resell value down the road.

And yes, I realize those two philosophies conflict with each other, so I guess you could call me a Seinfeld hypocrite :)

I care about aspect ratio, but my intention has been to buy the 4k. So, I’ll get the original aspect ratio. My brother likes to fill his screen so I imagine he’ll get the Blu-ray.

I'm with you. I've watched Seinfeld ALOT in reruns over the years so I'm sure that I've now seen the show more in 16x9 than in its original aspect ratio. I know there's a handful of shots that they somehow cropped and lost a joke but 99% of it doesn't look bad in 16x9. If I had to choose only one version to watch, I'd definitely go with the 4x3 framing but since I don't have to choose one over the other, I'll also buy the Blu-ray just to scratch my completist itch. I will wait until the Blu-ray is on sale though. :)

Interesting, I was never a Seinfeld fan, I never understood it. That said, I share Ron’s sentiment that it’s great the fans can get the series in ultra high definition as well as high def!

And that being said, I had to wonder, this being Sony, why did they not want to release Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie and instead license it out. I get that Seinfeld is a new show and its fans are likely a larger group.

Not in this older boxed set. Only the first three or four seasons are 4:3.

Gatekeeping the HD OAR episodes behind a LIMITED EDITION 4K release is such an awful thing to do.

I love the show, but I definitely won't have the cash to buy the UHD set immediately. And by the time I do it will probably OOP.

I have that set too and the episodes are all in 4x3. Maybe they quietly re-released them in a cropped form on DVD but I had never heard of it before.

I have no answer but mine is definitely split

It is baffling that the BluRay is stretched, and the UHD is the proper aspect ratio. If I decide to blind buy then binge, it will be the UHD- the original broadcast ratio.

It isn't stretched.

It's the protected for widescreen version (aka "cropped" from the 35mm film).
