Worrisome info (for those buying this US set):

These two extras appear to be ported over from the R2-PAL season one set. One extra on that set that wasn't mentioned in the press release was the director's commentary on the movie-length episode one. Wonder if that will make it to the US set?

Those who like their shows un-meddled with might want to wait for some reviews of this before ordering, or just go ahead and get the R2-PAL sets.

Not interested in "Hex", but I have to ask.....what the hex is SPHE? [IMG]
There are several topics posted today with that in their titles.

The first season is coming out in a few days on DVD.

Here is a link to the Amazon.com

I would definitely recommend watching it via DVD. BBCA cuts out about 10 minutes of content and censors the rest.

Scott, but no one is sure yet which version is on the DVD from Sony. It's possible it's the original BBC version, but it may not be (and the people at Sony don't know!).

Yikes. That would be really bad if they used the cut versions. I guess I'll wait and see. Thanks.

I am glad to see your "on it". This means we might actually get the answers we need. I really can't believe that they would release this in the BBCA butchered form. That would be a marketing disaster. I can only hope that there is at least one live brain cell left in the person who made the decision.

The negative review over at DVDTALK seems to indicate that this is the dreaded BBCA version and not the UK version. Of course this is not surprising since it is released by Sony and not BBCA.

And that ladies and gentlemen is why for a UK/OZ series, I order it from the UK/OZ. No excuse now days for not having a good region-free/conveting player

That is really too bad. The only reason I would buy it would be to see the series the way it was intended, not the way that BBCA decided it should be.

Guess this is another one off the list.

Did we ever find out if this is the cut/bbca version?

I noticed that Gord's blog on the tv guide site states that it is the butchered version:

    This sounds pretty definitve.

Then why not buy the R-2 PAL set from the UK, or the R-4 PAL from Australia (both of which are identical)? Season 2 is fairly inexpensive on AmazonUK at the moment (about $25 delivered). Season 1 isn't as cheap as it used to be, but it'll no doubt go on sale again, or it may be cheap Down Under.

I'm sure you can probably get both seasons for no more (and perhaps, for less than) what you'd pay for two of the US "seasons", plus they're the genuine uncut, non-music-replaced ones. If you don't have a region free player, for heaven's sake, why not splurge and spend $25-50 on one?

Now this is actually released, has anyone confirmed that this set is the BBCA versions and not the original UK ones?

I have heard a lot of assumptions, but I have not found anyone that knows first-hand.

Gord, if you read this, have you heard for sure if this is the edited versions?

bump I'd like to know too. I keep hearing that both it is and it isn't the one from BBCA. Someone on Michael Fassbender's (Azazeal) fansite is saying it isn't the edited version. So is there any definitive answer?

Someone on Amazon even says they're not edited:

I am not familiar with what BBC America typically allows but from what I have seen I am pretty sure these are the uncensored versions. I have completed the first 2 discs out of 3, been slowly getting them from blockbuster. After what I have seen I expect a purchase will be made since this show is quite good. Each episode runs about 45 mins, which does seem short for BBC, however the episodes have strong swearing and nudity..ranging from female breast to full male nudity. Does anyone know if a 45 minute runtime was the norm for this show?

Don, the run time is probably correct for what aired. This series was shown on Sky, not BBC. I am not positive, but I think that Sky has commercials.

I am glad and relieved to hear these are not the watered down BBCA versions. They are really bad at censoring stuff and just hacking stuff out to fit in more commercials and promos.

In addition to what I posted above, the opening theme song on the DVDs is "#1 Crush" by Garbage..a friend said that when these aired on BBC America it was replaced..good to know the DVD retains what was originally aired as this song sets the tone so well for the show I cant imagine anything else.
