GOOD TIMES: THE COMPLETE FIFTH SEASON

    ************************************************** *******************************************

All 24 Episodes Available August 23 on a Three-Disc DVD Set

Culver City, CA (June 13, 2005) - Join the Evans family for more laughs and
    heartaches when
GOOD TIMES: THE COMPLETE FIFTH SEASON arrives on DVD August 23. The fifth
    season also
marks the acting debut of an 11-year-old Janet Jackson, who joined the cast
    this year as Penny
Gordon. Featuring all 24 episodes from the fifth season, the three-disc
    set will be available for
$29.95 SLP from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.

Created by TV legend Norman Lear (TV's "All in the Family," Sanford and
    Son"), Good Times
first aired on CBS in 1974 as a mid-season replacement. The series was an
    instant hit and soon
became a Nielson rated "Top 10" sitcom. A spin-off of "Maude," Good Times
    focuses on a poor
but proud family living on the south side of Chicago. The Evans family,
    headed by patriarch,
James (John Amos) and mother, Florida (Esther Rolle), struggle against
    adversity but still manage
to keep their heads held high with a good sense of humor and help from
    their three kids. A
breakthrough show for American television, Good Times struck a chord with
    audiences by
tackling controversial subjects from a uniquely African American
    perspective. The series lasted
for five successful seasons and was nominated for three Golden Globe
    Awards®.

Good Times also starred comedian Jimmie Walker as the Evans' wise-cracking
    son J.J. (whose
    "Dyn-O-Mite" became a popular 1970s catchphrase) and Ja'net Du Bois (
    Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle)
as the Evans' neighbor and best friend Willona.

During the show's fifth season, the Evans children - J.J., Michael and
Thelma - must learn to live without
widowed mom Florida when she remarries and moves away, and Willona adds a
    new member to her
family when she adopts an abandoned girl, Penny (Janet Jackson). Fifth
    season guest stars include
Robert Guillaume (TV's "Benson"), Gary Coleman (TV's "Diff'rent Strokes")
    and Gordon Jump
    (TV's "WKRP in Cincinnati").

I don't care what anyone says. The fifth season of Good Times was really good. Not as good as the first four of course, but enjoyable.

Janet Jackson joining the cast was a bonus.

Agreed. Season 5 really gave the Willona character a chance to shine. I really liked the dramatic battles between her and Penny's birth mother.

Season 5 was a pretty good season because they added Janet Jackson character and I really can't wait until August 23th because I will be adding this and What's Happening: Final Season to my collection.

From season 2 on, successive releases of Good Times have been 27 weeks apart, so I wouldn't expect season 6 (assuming it does come out) until February '06

We're heading into the home stretch with this series and I'll be so happy to have the entire run on DVD.

    "Ain't we lucky we got 'em . . . Good Times . . . "
