I’m waiting on shipping notice from Bull Moose but they’re usually pretty timely so I’m expecting it on or close to street date. I’ve been trying to throw some of my business their way when possible. I think this wound up costing $1 more than from Amazon, but they also had the White Christmas 4K I wanted to get for $5 less than Amazon so I figured that was worthwhile.

I plan to watch in chronological order to keep me from cherry-picking my favorites and stalling out on the rest. I don’t think I’ve ever watched a big chunk of the Capra filmography in order before, it’s always been individually, so I think that will be fun.

I also have a couple non-Columbia Capra titles I’ve upgraded fairly recently that I haven’t gotten around to yet, and I’m going to try to fold them into this viewing cycle. Same with some Jimmy Stewart films I have new/unwatched discs for.

So even though the Capra set is 20 films, it’s going to wind up kicking off a viewing series of about 40 titles in total. Should be a fun few months.

That's a shame about "The Matinee Idol" (1928). I find it a much funnier and a much more entertaining film than "So This is Love" (1928) and "That Certain Thing" (1928), the two Capra items with the two sisters, Viola Dana and Shirley Mason. I sometimes get those two films mixed up, one involving a boxing match, and the other involving box-lunches. But yeah, I do recall "The Matinee Idol" having Johnny Walker playing a Jolson-esque Broadway star, who happens upon Bessie Love's little podunk acting troupe, and yes, Walker does do a little blackface bit in his show.

Columbia apparently re-used the "Matinee Idol" storyline again, in a talkie with Harry Richman and Rochelle Hudson, "The Music Goes 'Round" (1936), but I've never seen it, and I'm not sure how closely it follows the original.

Leaving out The Matinee Idol is understandable, and I won't give Sony any grief about doing so (at least I have a DVD of it that they released back in the day). But part of me can't help but think that if Warner could release The Jazz Singer on Blu-ray -- and then re-issue it later under the Archive Collection -- that Sony could've included The Matinee Idol here. Especially when it's in a huge honkin' set that isn't likely to be sought after by anyone but dedicated cinemaphiles who would be able to look past the problematic material.

But it is what it is.

I received an email from Amazon, letting me know that there’s a delay with the Capra set, and my new delivery date is next Tuesday (November 26).

Mine from Amazon is still scheduled to be delivered tomorrow per the tracking. Something odd at Amazon. The order page for the set has this message when I access it.
"This item cannot be shipped to your selected delivery location. Please choose a different delivery location." Perhaps one set per customer? Out of curiosity I changed the location to a friend I previously sent a gift and got the standard out of stock message /unknown if or when it will be available. I guess it sold better than expected if Amazon ran out of their initial inventory.

I just had to approve a shipping delay on Amazon. I didn't mind it since I don't have time to watch any of those titles anyhow as I'm too busy watching noir films in November.

I’ve got both Amazon and Bullmoose orders that haven’t shipped. I’ll keep whichever looks like it’s gonna come first. But I’m reviewing one TV show now and have another on the way so I have plenty to keep me busy until it gets here.

I got notice from Amazon yesterday that my order has shipped. Possibly due to my placing a pre-order as soon it became available. Hopefully, that’s an indication that all orders will dispatch soon.

Of course, it will take a couple of weeks in transit to Oz before I receive it, so by then most members here will no doubt have received and long basked in their copy.

I received notice mine will be delivered this afternoon.
My Amazon order is out for delivery.

Ebay store Pop Market has reduced price to $139.89. Plus you can get an additional 20% off when you purchase two or more items. Columbia Classics Vol 5 is $128.12 at Pop Market before the additional 20% off.

Whatever is being allowed on Blu-ray I've had a case of blackface being banned on LP. Yes, they're those large objects that carry sound but no pictures.

I sometimes copy some of a friend's old LPs (left by her father) to CD and then she sells the LPs to reduce clutter.

E Bay rejected an LP compilation of Al Jolson's songs for the reason that she was attempting to trade in offensive material.

I received mine from Target and heard the dreaded sound of rattling, so I opened the package and luckily only one disc, So This Is Love? had popped out of its tightly packed individual bluray case.

I like the packaging and I look forward to going through this set; there's a lot I have never seen before.

Thank you so much for this tip. I cancelled my Capra Collection on Amazon and used Pop Marked to get Capra and the CC Vol. 5.
