Sounds identical to the British SE released just over a year ago, but I'll be picking it up to replace that, as I can't stand PAL speedup.

If it's a British SE, and an original British film, wouldn't PAL speed be the most accurate? Wouldn't an uncorrected NTSC version be a tad slow?

No, British films still run at 24fps, same as US films.

Transfering 24fps films to PAL video standards (25fps) results in PAL speed up. Transfering 24fps to NTSC video standards, with a bit of jiggery pokery, has the video running at the same speed as the original film.

The matter would be different if the film had been shot for PAL TV - ie voices on British TV programmes sound fine to us, whilst US TV programs and films sound as though everyone has taken a small hit of helium before coming onscreen. [IMG]

    Yawn ...

Brendon, as has been pointed out countless times, PAL speedup only affects a tiny minority of people (and most of those only noticed it after some 'expert' told them about it) - most people don't bother about it. If it was really as obvious as you think, then Brits would be complaining all the time about NTSC slowdown when we play R1 discs, and saying that it sounds like everyone was on tranquillizers.

Listen to the soundtrack CD for a movie, then watch the PAL version of the same film. Unless there's been some pitch correction, you'll notice the difference.

Of course, some people don't care [IMG]

    >> "then I'll believe it's a real phenomenon"

There's nothing 'real' to prove, it's just people's perceptions that differ.
