    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Celebrate the 25th Anniversary of an Action Classic
    on 4K Ultra HD™ January 15

    CLIFFHANGER

    Directed by Renny Harlin
and Starring Sylvester Stallone & John Lithgow

CULVER CITY, Calif. (October 10, 2018) – Action icon Sylvester Stallone (The Expendables, Rocky franchises) stars in one of the most heart-pounding, gravity-defying action spectaculars of the 1990s, CLIFFHANGER, celebrating its 25th ANNIVERSARY by debuting on 4K Ultra HD and on digital in 4K with HDR January 15 from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. Nominated for three Academy Awards®*, the film finds Stallone as a former mountain rescuer persuaded to help save a group of stranded hikers. He discovers they are in fact a gang of ruthless criminals who have lost their $100 million stash during a plane crash in the Rocky Mountains. Directed by Renny Harlin (Die Hard 2), CLIFFHANGER: also stars John Lithgow (TV’s “The Crown”), Michael Rooker (Guardians of the Galaxy), Janine Turner (TV’s “Friday Night Lights”), Leon (Cool Runnings), Paul Winfield (The Terminator) and Ralph Waite (“The Waltons”).

Fully restored in 4K resolution from the original camera negative, the 4K Ultra HD disc release of CLIFFHANGER also features exclusive Dolby Atmos audio.

    SYNOPSIS:
Sylvester Stallone, John Lithgow, Michael Rooker, Janine Turner and Ralph Waite star in this high-altitude avalanche of action: a nonstop adventure peaked with suspense and capped with heart-quaking terror. For Rocky Mountain Rescue, the mission is almost routine: locate five climbers. With the woman he loves (Turner) and his best friend (Rooker), Gabe Walker (Stallone) braves the icy peaks only to discover that the distress call is really a trap set by merciless international terrorist Eric Qualen (Lithgow). Now millions of dollars and their own lives hang in the balance. Against explosive firepower, bitter cold and dizzying heights, Walker must outwit Qualen in a deadly game of hide-and-seek.

Based on a premise by John Long, with a screen story by Michael France and a screenplay by Michael France and Sylvester Stallone, CLIFFHANGER is directed by Renny Harlin. The film was produced by Alan Marshall and Renny Harlin and executive produced by Mario Kassar.

Legacy Bonus Features on Blu-ray Include:
    • Commentary with Director Renny Harlin and Sylvester Stallone
    • Technical Crew Commentary
    • A Personal Introduction from Director Renny Harlin
    • Deleted Scenes with Director Intro
    • Making-of Featurette: “Stallone On The Edge”
    • Special Effects Featurettes

Another one I won't have any issues with upgrading from Blu-ray to 4K/UHD.

    Crawdaddy,

I read your response in the other thread. I, too, am being very choosy which titles I upgrade to. The purpose of moving up to 4k was not to replace my Blu-ray library.

CLIFFHANGER is a must buy. This is one I certainly will not mind upgrading.

I like this film -- love the cinematography -- but I just checked, and I haven't watched my BD version in over 8.5 years. I guess buying it again in 4K would give me an excuse to watch. Maybe I'll upgrade if the price gets to around $15

A fun, if at times very violent film, almost worth watching for John Lithgow's crazy posh English accent alone. I never understood why Sly's friend was so angry with Sly about his girlfriend's death at the start of the film, he said something like, that rope wasn't rigged for two...but the rope didn't break, did it! I think I read somewhere that the accident was re-filmed (or re-edited or something) & that dialogue was for the first version & not changed.

Just watched this 4k release tonight on my new JVC RS2000/NX7

I am really now seeing the benefits of 4k. This film looks stunning in the format. This was always one of my favorite films of the era and it was very "fresh" with this viewing thanks to its breathtaking images in 4k.

The Dolby Atmos track is also quite incredible.

Good for you as I was getting kind of worry about your new projector. Have you got it calibrated yet?

It's due to be calibrated within the next 2-3 weeks.

However, I have done some big adjustments on my own based on recommendations, including opening the iris and lowering the lamp output.

The result was exactly what I had hoped for. I can sit back and marvel at the improved clarity and detail.

That's good to see you're seeing the benefits.
