Please note that this is also being released as a standalone vinyl album, as a CD+DVD combo and as a CD+BD combo.

This is a huge release for Springsteen fans as there is very limited high quality visual material publicly available from this era of his career. A legendary show finally getting the kind of release it deserves.

I’m thrilled!

I heard Thom Zimny talking about this on Bruce's Sirius channel and you'd think they were talking about finding a new tablet with the Eleventh through Fifteenth Commandments.

I was actually at one of these shows…probably my first concert ever. My friends and I couldn’t understand why the crowd kept yelling “nukes”, when it was an anti nuke show. Found out later that Springsteen fans yell his first name out many times during the show. We still laugh about that to this day

I've heard pieces of this concert on Sirius and these guys are on fire. When it comes to Bruce, I only really know the hits but this is a helluva performance that I'm sure any big fan will love.

The Blu-ray is very nice - PCM 2.0 and 5.1 tracks, and the original 16mm 1.33:1 photography hasn’t been messed with in any awkward ways. It’s definitely a rougher technical presentation which makes sense - the shows were filmed with the intention of getting two songs for a documentary about the whole benefit, so there was no need for precision or perfection on every song. The vantage point you most frequently get is that of a concert goer in the front of the stage looking up at the performers, so more than most professionally shot concerts, it makes you feel like you’re standing in the general admission area with the band in your face. It’s a little bit of a bummer that the promotional clips and new interviews they did for Bruce’s YouTube and VEVO channels wasn’t included on the disc - it contains just the concert with no bonus materials whatsoever.

This is an unpopular opinion in Bruce circles: I think the performance is great for what it is. Speaking more objectively, they have traded precision for energy here - in this era they often played the songs too fast and Bruce doesn’t enunciate in his singing particularly well. I think they’re actually a better band now than they were then, but you’d hope that guys playing together for decades would get better after all that time so that makes sense to me. As with many fanbases for many artists, there’s a tendency to say everything back then was great and everything new isn’t, and that’s not my experience of this band. It wasn’t quite a revelation for me but was nonetheless very enjoyable to see.

That's mentally ill. Those guys have been together for 45 or however many years and they are still an incredible live band and there isn't any other long-running band that I would say that about. I mean they're not the same as when they started (nor should they be) but they can still do it great and that's incredibly rare. I mean I love the Ramones but if they were still alive and touring, they would likely be a shell of what they were in 1977.

I received the BD + CD set as a gift for Christmas, and it's terrific. While the video quality is not the best (it was filmed on 16mm), both the performance and the audio quality are superb. I played the uncompressed LPCM 5.1 surround track on the BD, and also listened to a high bit rate MP3-encoded version of the CD on my earbuds from my smartphone. If you are a fan of Springsteen and the E Street Band, this belongs in your collection.
