    BLUE THUNDER:
    THE COMPLETE SERIES

Based on the Hit Movie, Series Delivers 11 Episodes
of Seat-Gripping Action on DVD August 22

Culver City, CA (June 12, 2006) – Action and adventure are in Sony Pictures Home Entertainment’s flight plan for Blue Thunder: The Complete Series, which debuts on DVD August 15. Starring James Farentino (Rosie!, License to Kill), Dana Carvey (Wayne’s World, TV’s “Saturday Night Live”), Bubba Smith (Police Academy, The Naked Truth) and Dick Butkus (Any Given Sunday) as a rag-tag group of crime fighters utilizing a futuristic helicopter to keep the world safe, series will be released in a three-disc boxed set featuring all 11 episodes from the series’ run. The DVD will be priced at $39.95 SLP.

Based on the 1983 feature film starring Roy Schneider, the TV version of Blue Thunder focused on Lt. Frank Chaney (Farentino) of the LAPD. Chaney is a maverick cop with unorthodox methods who is assigned to the Blue Thunder Team, an elite group assembled by APEX, an agency of the federal government that deals with crimes of extraordinary proportion. The unit utilizes an advanced helicopter capable of high speeds and stunning maneuverability, which runs silently in “whisper mode,” and is armed with the most powerful weapons available. Chaney’s partner in crime-fighting is a fresh-faced rookie named Wonderlove (Carvey), while ground support is ably supplied by ex-athletes Ski (Butkus) and Bubba (Smith), who monitor the team’s movements via a sophisticated van.

Blue Thunder made its debut as a mid-season replacement on ABC January 6, 1984, and was applauded for its superb aerial action sequences. Guest stars include Kelly Preston (Sky High, Twins) and Tracy Scoggins (TV’s “Dynasty,” “Lois & Clark”).

Blue Thunder the TV series is getting a Region 2 UK release from MediumRare Entertainment (the distributor who released the second and third seasons of Kojak on R2 in the UK some weeks ago). The BBFC added one listing to their website on Friday for the first six episodes...on one disc. Suely that can't be right, six episodes on one disc? Hasn't that been done with some of the Mill Creek and TimeLife DVD releases?
