Fox R2 will release a two-disc SE of Speed in Sweden on June 30th. I haven't seen anything about the specs for the R1 5-star but the Swedish release will have the following:

Interestingly enough, they will also release a 2-disc S.E. of Predator on June 1st with the following extra features:

I know that there will be a R1 SE of speed but this is the first I've heard of a Predator SE. Can only hope that R1 will not be far behind.

It just isn't fair! :frowning: You guys get all the goodies.
Seriously, I really hope Predator finds its way over here as that is one movie that really deserves an SE, IMO. It sounds like they pulled out all the stops with that release, should be a good one.
I thought I remembered Fox stating that there weren't any plans for a Predator SE. Is Fox "Europe" a different intity than Fox "USA"? Just curious as to how they decide who gets what and when. Are the discs produced by the same folks, etc.?

I only buy R1 titles anyway, I just felt this needed to be posted so we could get an early glimpse of what may come down the line.

:eek::eek: Regarding 'Predator', WHAT!!
I am asking this as a deadly serious question, why the hell does R2 get all the good shit? They have an anamorphic transfer of 'Armageddon', they have lord knows how many seasons of 'Buffy' on dvd, and who knows what else. What's the deal here!?

I think I remember Peter Straddon saying something to the effect that Predator S.E. was a long way off considering they just re-released it in DTS a year ago.

And what of Predator 2, which was hinted at being an early 2002 release?

I'm surprised a full-blown SE of Predator was made in the first place, given the controversy about the failed first predator designs (which were bad enough to halt production and have the producers bring in Stan Winston to desiggn the monster we know and love).

I'll be really pissed if this is Europe-only-- I'm willing to wait for the 5-star to appear on shelves here in the US!

Geez I'd love to see a Predator SE makes its way over here. I have the non-anamorphic DVD and would love to upgrade. In fact, I've been thinking of upgrading to the anamorphic version soon; now I'm wondering if I should.

From what I have read, Predator is not scheduled for a 5-Star Release at all. They do 3 5-stars a year, and the titles that have already been announced for the 5-Star's for 2002 and 2003, didnt include it.
2002:
M*A*S*H
Speed
True Lies
And on the schedule for 2003, according to FOX:
ALIEN
Planet of the Apes (original)
Strange Days (Possible)
Maybe Fox has decided to not go with Strange Days, and release Predator instead. I hope so, Predator is a much better film then Strange Days, IMHO. The other choices are great though. To bad it's so far off for R1, lucky R2 people. :D

Well, i'm glad that most of you are taking ths news lightly, I however am not! Did you see all that stuff of the R2 'Predator' SE or not? What do we have, a trailer, WHOA that's an extra alright!:rolleyes
Peter, please tell us that this dvd will come to R1 as well.
Peter, I know that you frequent the forum often, and I mean no disrespect toward you, but this isn't fair.
Julian, why would I not be serious? It's a legitimate question. I am a big fan of 'Predator', and it really bothers me that a jam packed SE exsists, but since I have the misfortune of living in R1, I can't buy it? I don't mind saying that that is a load of crap!
If i'm off base here, just tell me, but I don't think so.

I really don't understand why Region 1 doesn't get certain titles, or certain titles in a higher quality format, i.e., OAR anamorphic.

Be aware though, that the previous R2 Predator release (the U.K. one anyway) is cut, whereas the R1 is uncut. I'd wait and see if this feature loaded Predator will also be the trimmed version before I buy.

Come on guys! I understand that you're upset, but claiming that R2 gets all the good stuff is just plain wrong. Sure we have some obscure titles available like HK cinema and british TV (well the brits have), but we also have to deal with censorship, lack of titles and high pricing. Believe me, you are fortunate when it comes to dvd.

Well John, you're welcome to swap. You take off us our SE of Predator if it matters to you so much, and we will have the whole of The Criterion Collection in return. You have New Line, we get 'Entertainment In Video'. Also, say goodbye to 90% of DTS releases, widescreen Blue Velvet, Die Hard With A Vengeance: SE (not that the first two are out for a while yet either), most of Anchor Bay's catalog...

Thats why we can't believe a suggestion that we get 'all the good shit'.

Personally, I usually only buy from the US anyway, so its annoying that there won't be a Predator: SE there, but the bigger picture more than counters this.
