Special Edition "Naming" Trend Foolishness (1 Viewer)

In regards to the recent trend of adding self-referential descriptives to new, special editions of DVDs, I am of the opinion that, while momentarily amusing, these descriptives simply conrtibute to more poor and annoying cover artwork. I always prefer original theatrical advertising materials for use as DVD artwork; a simple sticker on the shrink wrap saying "Special Edition" or the like would be more than addiquate.

Should this trend continue, I fear that we may have to endure attrocities in the spirit of the following:

Chinatown: the big bandaged nose edition

The Godfather: the edition you can't refuse edition

2001: the star child edition

The Shining: the here's Johnny edition

Taxi Driver: you talkin' to me edition

Gone with the Wind: the edition you'll give a damn about

Casablanca: the eddition you'll play again and again edition

Psycho: mother's favorite edition

Midnight Cowboy: that stuff you like to swill edition

Network: the edition you can't take anymore

Silence of the Lambs: the fava bean edition

The Deer Hunter: the really long, long wedding edition

Mutiny on the Bounty: the yummy breadfruit edition

Easy Rider: the groovy dinner edition

Pulp Fiction: the gold watch edition

Unforgiven: the duck of death edition

If you're with me on this, please feel free to suggest further attrocities or to improve upon those above...

Brilliant!

I have thought about starting a thread about this myself! It was after the Wedding Crashers "Uncorked Edition" that really made me tired of special edition names.

Kill Bill Vol. 1 - The Bea BBBEEEEEEEEEEPPPP iddo Edition

Pulp Fiction - The Bad Mutha *ucka edition

Star Wars 4-6 - Changing & adding more things to sell more copies and get people to buy the first three movies editon.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas - We were somewhere around Barstow on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold... edition

Memento - Okay, what am I doing? edition

HA HA HA; perfect additions! By the way, I've always felt that the 1992 John Landis vampire film Innocent Blood should simply be titled "Loggia Runs Amuck"; he steals the show, and the performance is just hilarious.

So without further ado:

Loggia Runs Amuck: the more amuck for your buck edition

I know, I must not be taking the proper medication...

I can deal with double dipping..."floating head" cover art...even packaging that stacks discs, but this cutesy naming trend has got to go!!

However, there are a few (generic) labels I'd still like to see:

Slightly Different Cover Art Edition

We've Added A Five Minute (Admittedly Fluff) Featurette Edition

We Removed The Original Theatrical Trailers Edition

We Also Removed The Original Disc's Commentary Track Edition

Sequel/Remake Is Really Just An Excuse To Double Dip This Superior Film Edition
