What suggestions for connecting my wall plate speaker connections [has banana and screw off nuts with cross holes]to my receiver, what kind of connections if any and what kind of wire

Those posts are called "5 way binding posts" because there are 5 different ways to connect wire to them.

My favorite is to use one of the dual-banana plugs from Radio Shack (xxx-309). These things have a large side-hole into which you stick 12 ga wire, tighten the screw and you have a great connection. The bananas are easy to use. Just buy a pair and bring them home to make sure the spacing matches.
