Ok I'm dying to get the best sound out of what I have currently.

Right now I have an Aiwa AV-D57 receiver, Bose 201 front book shelf speakers, KLH Center and rears, JBL 10" floor impact sub.

My problem is when I use the test option on the receiver they all sound the same. But when I play a movie I can barely hear the rears.

Also with the sub channel what is the best setting to have it at?

    Thanks,

Its very difficult to get the levels close by ear. Also, the surrounds should just provide slight ambient effects in the mix. Occassionally, in action movies especially, specific effects will pan hard to them, but other than that they should not draw attention to themselves.
