Can anybody suggest ways to prevent this? One of my N24s are rattling on its stand when played loud. I know it's not a speaker problem since when I remove it and hold the speaker the rattling doesn't happen so it must be the stand.

Check that the nuts on the spikes and the screws in the stand are tight.
If it's vibration from between the bottom of the speaker and the top plate of the stand be sure there are some rubber pads or blutack on the top plate of the stands.

Thanks for the tip Mark. I'll try to place some rubber where you suggested. The problem I think I'll encounter is that since the speaker is screwed onto the stands, I can't prevent the resonance from travelling down through the screw and down the pole. I placed my ear on the stands and the vibrations are coming from the pole where the speaker wire is placed. Man, now I know why some speaker stands are lead/sand filled.
