Is their a reason why there is more selections of bookshelf speakers for the home theater surround. Does the surrounds sound better on speaker stands then on the wall?

Many bookshelves have mounting holes on the back that allow you to attach them to the walls. Additionally, there are many purpose built mounts that grip the speaker that can also be used, so I'm not sure I understand your question.
