Speaker port question (1 Viewer)

I just bought the KEF Q11 tower 4-way speakers. The speakers came with 2 soft sponge-like plugs for the port openings in each speaker. What are these plugs for? The owners manual has mostly symbols and illustrations and NO text describing what these plugs are for.

You can tighten up the bass a bit by installing the plugs in the ports, at the expense of a slight loss of SPL and extension.
