Just watched my Avia DVD and they recommended placing my speakers next to the TV.However,Hitachi Says to place them at least 4 ft. away.If they are shielded, would it matter if I put them closer?By the way, this site is outstanding!

Speaker placement is room/dimension dependent.
In general, you want to pull the L/R speakers into the room 2 feet or more. Try to give the speakers 2 feet or more space around them. This usually dictates were to place the speakers.
