Speaker Placement Question (1 Viewer)

So I finally did it! I went out and bought the following:

Projector: Epson 5030UB

Screen: BD Zero Edge 100" 1.4 gain

Receiver: Denon X1000

Speakers: Sonance VP62 in-wall

I need help choosing where to place LCR speakers. Screen is 88" wide and going on a 92" wide wall. Obviously there is no room to put LR speakers to the side of screen.

My two options are to put all 3 LCRs above or below screen. VP62s have a pivoting tweeter so at least I have the flexibility to have sound directed at the viewer.

Aesthetically I like the way speakers look below screen but I've read above screen may produce better performance. Although there doesn't seem to be a consensus.

My ceilings are 9' and screen is 49.8" tall. With seated eye level at 48", to have eyes 1/3 the way up screen, bottom of screen would be at 31.4" and top at 81.2". This leaves me 26.8" above screen and 31.4" below screen. Speakers are 12.25" tall.

There will only be one row of seats so sound coming from below screen being blocked won't be an issue.

I've attached some pics of the room to help visualize the set up. Screen will be going on wall behind TV on floor.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

It would help to know the wall for the screen...assuming bottom picture?
No, it will be going on the wall behind the TV sitting on the floor (3rd pic). That wall is 92". I could go with the wall behind the dumbbells (4th pic) but furniture placement is awkward with the diagonal wall on other side of room.

Then return the in-walls.

There is zero chance of putting those in the walls(cause you have to find out where the studs are) where they won't be blocked by the screen. The entire point of an in-wall is to put them "where they are supposed to go" and put an AT screen in front of them.

The screen you chose is 1.4. The Gamma is 1.1. The projector you picked is a "cannon".

Essentially, with that projector "on high"...(mounted at 11')

1.4 gain nets you a 43fl image.
1.1 gain nets you a 33fl image.

43? Hope you wear sunglasses.

You could actually go down to a .8 gain screen. (which still nets 24fl)

Don't plan on using it "on high". And it will be mounted at 13'.

Adjusted to 13'

1.1 nets 28fl
1.4 nets 36fl

Low drops about a 1/3rd...(anybody know specifically what low power is on the 5020UB? I never deal with LCD)

36 x .666 = 24fl
28 x .666 = 18(rounded down...and still too bright)

Might be too bright for a fully darkened room. I will rarely, if ever, be using this set up in a fully darkened room.

I've read that you want something in the 30's to battle ambient light.

That 287 figure is at max distance. Not 13 feet. What is it at 13?. I don't have the slightest idea. But regardless...With the wall real estate you have...in-wall only works with an AT screen.Unless you just want to mount, permanently, your speakers really low, or really high.

I know it's not an optimal set up. I'm just going with what I have to work with. My wife doesn't want to see bulky speakers, so she agreed to in-walls. That leaves me with 2 options, above or below the screen. I was curious as to which would work better. I realize neither option is ideal, but that's all I have to work with.

I would choose high, mount the screen as low as possible. Sit, figure out how high your head is. Where your head is, is where the center(top/bottom) of the screen goes.

By the way, the KEF T series could have worked here. I've already seen people remove the original grills and make silk screen "art work" grills, so they look like pictures on the wall.

Eye level is at 48". That'd put top of screen at 72.9". That leaves me 35.1" above the screen. So I'd have a little less than 2' from top of speaker to ceiling.

Is there any concern for sound reflecting off the ceiling? I wouldn't think so if I had the tweeters pointed down towards the viewer.

That sounds like a pretty cool idea. I bet the wife would go for that.

Joann's fabric has tons of fabric that would work as well.I have DCM TF series speakers that use a "sock"(basically the entire speaker is fabric covered). I've seen them covered in pink fabric. And camo...Just make sure(if you go this route) You buy fabric that is sound permeable. Any fabric store personnel can help.
