This may be an unusual question, but I have always wondered about this. When you have a reciever on, but no sound signal is coming through(TV,DVD, Music, wtc) , should ANY sound be coming through the speakers? When I get close to my speakers, I can hear a distant hiss. Is this normal, or is it the result of line interference, poor or malfunctioning speakers, bad cables, or any other sort of problem? Please help me alleviate my ignorance. Thanks.

I can hear that hiss too (and a hum), only when you turn the volume up. On regular listening levels they're absent.
Ya, need to know the source of the problem as well.

    Kevin,

I too also can hear something coming from my speakers. When just the receiver is on and no signal is coming from anywhere I can hear what sounds like wind. Now better way to put it than that. I never notice it when listening to movies or music, but with no signal it is there.
