Apart from keeping the dust off of the speakers, is there any merit to leaving the grilles on?
I think they look better with the grilles off. I just got JBL N26's and they look really cool.
Anyone leave theirs off all the time?

My right front PSB Stratus Silveri grill is off right now, it's about two feet from me as i type...it's very cool looking with the grill off. I generally keep them.

Well some grills are meant to be left on like my paradigms for instance. They have been designed that way but a lot are not. best way to determine if they should be left on or not is to try it both ways. If you can't hear a difference than leave them off.

I have b&w Nautilus 805's and I keep my grills off. The yellow kevlar just looks so cool.

Also note that grills are there to protect the speakers... from accidental bumps or pobing fingers! For those of us with kids, speakers are much more interesting when their covers are off. I keep the covers on, and my 4-1/2 year old essentially ignores them. Otherwise, I think he would be too intrigued.

I usually keep the grills on my B&W 604s to keep the dust off the cones but I currently have them off. I also love the look of the yellow kevlar and like to take them off when I have company over (provided that the company isn't bringing kids with them).

Mine stay on as they were acoustically designed to remain on. However when I send up pictures to the webpage I usually take them off since they do look nicer when they are naked.

From a performance perspective, it depends on the nature of the speaker. If its emphasis is on the top end, grilled might help tame it. If the top end is too tame for you, grill-less might help brighten things up.
I tend to like the SOUND of my speakers with the grills on. Though I'll agree many speakers look nice w/o.

personally, if i didn't hear a difference, i would leave them on simply to protect the drivers from dust, straying fingers, etc.
