I had a question about speaker design -

Why is it that most new floorstander's employ multiple smaller woofers, instead of one larger driver? Is it just to keep the cabinet smaller, or are there sonic benefits?

    Thanks!

Two small drivers in one enclosure gives you a gain in SPL vs one larger driver. IMO, since the focus will typically still remain on midrange, even with many floorstanders, the smaller drivers yeild better midrange performance.

A smaller profile cabinent is easier to control resonance in as well.
