speaker calibration

    Could I use the Planet of the Apes THX optimizer to calibrate my speakers? I have a spl. Thanks

    You would be better off using the built-in pink noise test tones in your receiver. The THX optimizer is not really intended for speaker calibration.

    There is also a Sound and Vision Guide to Home Theater DVD that would work fine as a source for calibration test tones -- under $20.

    Yes. But buy an AVIA disk when you can. It has a lot of good info, is a better source for calibrating speakers, and will really help calibrating your TV also.

    The question with the THX optimizers is: What db level equals ref? Without knowing that, you can balance your speakers, but you won't know how far under ref you are listening.
