I just saw the re-release in stores and was shocked to see that there was no new transfer done. Just the same old non-anamorphic version. WTF??? Is it available ANYWHERE as anamorphic? I've really sworn off buying them at this point.

    Those bastards.

I'd read that even the original letterbox release was modified aspect ratio.

I had it briefly, but the WS side wouldn't play. Sent it back, and it was discontinued before I could get a replacement. [IMG]

DVD Profiler doesn't have the release until 3/2, man I have to go look for it now.

Seems like all of the MGM-Anchor Bay re-issues are just that: the same transfers as what were on the original DVDs. [IMG]

Remember... blame Disney, not MGM or Anchor Bay. These companies work with the transfers they are supplied with.

Don't run just yet. I was in a store that had School of Rock out already so that's probably an accurate date.

They are near my work so I went on my lunch break. [IMG]

    Why Blame Disney....

Isn't the Disney re-issue of Science Project 16x9?
Isn't Return To Oz slated for 16x9?

or am I just wrong here?

Because MGM and Anchor Bay don't have control over the available film elements, Disney does.

They can only work with what they're given.

Why does Disney control the available film elements for SpaceCamp? Does it have something to do with ABC?

Yep. In the early days of DVD, these ABC titles were dished out to Disney with passable, but old non-anamorphic transfers and almost no extras. Some months ago it was announced that MGM would be distributing these films now that the Anchor Bay license has expired.

From what we've seen so far, all of the ABC re-releases from MGM are just re-hashes.

So guess what movie was just shown in HD on HDNet? Huh. Guess that means SOMEONE has an anamorphic version around...

Its not a question of having a widescreen transfer, its whether its anamorphically enhanced.

Are you sure that the version you saw broadcast in HD was really a new HD transfer or was it the same non-anamorphic transfer upscaled to your resolution?

They don't upscale movies on that station AFAIK. They're all native HD.
