It's about time. Thanks Columbia Tristar, this is one of my all time favorite movies. [IMG] Hopefully Warner will announce Ice Pirates soon and then my collection will be complete. [IMG]

But will the original 3-D remain intact?

What? No 3D? How can you appreciate Michael Ironside when he's not in 3D?

Columbia says they haven't given the FULL specs on this yet. So, maybe.....If it is 3-D I'm definatly picking this one up!

GREAT NEWS!....Now just need Universal to release Metalstorm: The Destruction of Jared Syn and Columbia to release Yor: The Hunter From the Future....I love those early 80's campy sci-fi flicks.

Ooooooooh! Just when I was drooling over Spacehunter after seeing the DVDFile blurb, I come back over here and see you guys mention Metalstorm, Yor, and Ice Pirates. Ooooooh!
Y'know, for a bunch of cheesy '80's SF flicks that seemed to have a lot in common, there's really not much in common with these. For example, the only person who worked on both MCA's MetalStorm and Columbia's Spacehunter was a dude name of Tony Cecere...who acted in MS and was a stuntman in SH.
Trivia aside, I can't WAIT for SH, and I hope they follow up with Yor in the not-too-distant future (I think it's them who brought that one to the USA). Then maybe MGM will follow up with MS & IP?...

    YOR?! Ha!
Jared Butler, a fellow HTFer (who I first met at the LA meet in May), has a short on iFilm (or AtomFilm), I'm not sure which, called "Yor Returns," which is absolutely hilarious. It's basically about Yor himself -- not Reb Brown but a goofy looking guy with a blonde wig instead -- at a comic convention desperately trying to sell autographs, slashing his prices as the day goes on. Later, Yor tries to get a job and learns that the employment market is a lot tougher than expected. I'll email the thread to Jared and see if I can find out where you can track down "Yor Returns."
He even has the "Yor" soundtrack album!

It would be a tragedy if they don't put this out in 3-D, since that's just about its only redeeming value! This came out around the same time as "Return of the Jedi", and I actually went to see "Spacehunter" first because it was in 3-D and "Jedi" wasn't- take THAT, George Lucas!

Well the studios have botched another 3-D film on DVD.
DVDfile is reporting Spacehunter will only have a flat
(2D) version, and 2.0 audio, when discrete 4.1 audio was
available for 70mm 3-D prints. [IMG]
The current (flat) 3-D DVD list of shame:
    Creature from the Black Lagoon
    Friday the 13th Part III
    Robot Monster
    Emmanuelle IV

Wasn't one of the "Nightmare on Elm Street" series also supposed to be 3D? I seem to recall a scene with writhing serpents above a doorway to hell or something like that...

David, it is Freddy's Dead Nightmare on Elm Street part 6 I belive. It has an option to turn on or off the 3D part of the film. That is what Columbia Tri-Star should do or they should give this title to Anchor Bay. If Anchor Bay did Spacehunter, it would probaly have dts, deleted scenes and other special features. Oh well I am going to still buy this title anyways.

Spacehunter without 3D is worthless if you ask me. I mean, that was the whole point! What about Starchaser Legend of Orin - wasn't that 3D too?
Mark, thanks for the plug on my Yor short. If anyone would like to check it out, here's a link
    http://www.ifilm.com/ifilm/product/f...220579,00.html
If the above link doesn't work, you can just go to www.ifilm.com and do a search for YOR RETURNS
As a side note - I put that short up on ifilm about a year ago and it did pretty well (it was the highest rated spoof for a while) and was downloaded a few thousand times. At some point though, ifilm redid their website and added a new rating system of 1 to 5 instead of 1 to 10 - so now instead of having thousands of votes and a rating of 8 or 9, it has 44 votes and a rating of 2.6 out of 5. 2.6?!! Can't Yor get some love?! Damn talking box!!
Some day, the glory that is the original YOR miniseries from Italian television will be released on HDVD and the universe will be in balance. Until then, we are left with the butchered 2 hour theatrical release version. If only I could sit through the whole 2 hours. If they release the 8 hour version I'm sure the pace will be imporved...

To answer your question JaredB, StarChaser was also a
3-Der! The only (3-D) video release this one has seen was
the long OOP VHD videodisc version, and the OOP VHS/S-VHS
3DTV Corporation version. (All were in the field-sequential
    3-D video format.)

Hopefully Columbia Tristar will change their mind about not releasing on DVD without a 3-D option. Check out Studio and Manufacter feedback area.
