I ran across these I the latest DVD Beaver newsletter. Does anyone anything about these releases? It seems that there was some restoration work but they seem to be very vague as to what exactly was done for these new releases. Here is what I was able to grab, Please let me know if you have any other information or opinions.

Capitalising on the success of the first two Space:1999 movies (episodes edited together as cinema features in the wake of Star Wars) ITC created what would ultimately become thirteen full-length movies for cable and home video under the banner Super Space Theater. Four of these were made from episodes of Space:1999, though they included new music in places and (for Alien Attack) additional scenes.
Each of these four movies has been rebuilt from the High-Definition restorations created for the series episodes – they are presented here in their original 4:3 full screen aspect ratio alongside new 16:9 widescreen special editions, with both Alien Attack and Destination Moonbase-Alpha featuring enhanced special effects. All four special editions have been re-edited, restoring scenes and adding material not in the original presentation.
Also included in this set is a rebuild of the Italian theatrical movie Spazio:1999 – debuting several months before TV transmissions began and featuring an idiosyncratic score from the legendary Ennio Morricone, it was the first time Space:1999 was seen anywhere in the world.

I have them, they were put out by Network a couple of years ago.

The Super Space Theater edition is great fun. The movie versions were actually recreations from the HD restored episodes and look great. Three of the four movies have recreated opening and closing credits (the originals are included as bonus features). There are also two sound tracks: the original "movie versions" with the added music layered on back in the 80s, and the "episode" mix, which is true to the original episodes.

There are also alternate versions in widescreen with enhanced special effects, new opening and closing credits and far fewer edits to the episodes to make the film versions.

As alternates, they work well. Space:1999 actually looks really good in widescreen, better than I expected. The new effects are, as these thing s can be, hit or miss, but mostly really good. These are really nice alternate versions.

As for the TV series itself, it's perfectly restored and a visual treat. Space:1999 looks great on Blu Ray (and it's available from a number of labels worldwide at this point). These should be straight repressing's of the Network releases. Even the packaging is the same other than the Spirit logo taking the place of the Network.

Just one thing: you say this is an OZ release, meaning Australia? Your copied descriptions says "Austria." Different country, different region, so consider carefully.

The original Network DVDs in the UK had isolated music tracks for 22 of the 24 year 1 episodes - missing the two commentary episodes. Sadly the bluray release duplicated this, I would have hoped that extra available space might have encouraged them to include the music only tracks for these 2 episodes. I assume this new Oz release is the same

I want this very badly but if it isn't playable on NA BD players I guess I will skip it.

Hey @Bryan^H you're in luck. A region free release is being done by Anderson Entertainment. And not a bad price at all. All the content of the Network, plus VHS versions for fidelity and the 35mm unrestored print of Destination Moonbase-Alpha. Also posters :)
