I am putting together my first ALIENWARE system.

Right now, with my current DELL computer, I own
a Soundblaster Extigy external sound device that overrides my internal card.

It's perfect for hooking up audio devices with
optical outputs (such as my XM radio unit).

Looking at the Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro as it looks like the
closest upgrade to the EXTIGY I now own. It also has
    optical input.

    But Wait!

Do I really need the Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS over the
Soundblaster Exitgy? It seems that both feature 24-bit
    HD audio.

Will I really see any improvement pumping music through
it than I would with the EXTIGY I already own?

Would appreciate help from anyone that can compare the two.

    Thanks

4 threads and counting. 1 more and I'll have to report you to an admin.

 If you want a card for music go with something Envy24 based like an Audiotrak Prodigy 7.1.

Yeah, this is my first computer
in a while and I am really going
as high-end as possible on it.

    Lots of questions.

Couldn't find a home page for the Audiotrak
    Prodigy 7.1 card you recommended.

The card itself looks good, but I want a
system with optical and RCA inputs that I
can access from the front of the case.

What do you think of THIS?

    The homepage is HERE

I think I found this system based on the
    chipset you recommended above.

This is supposed to be better than the Audigy.

Here's what I got from the Envy24HT based thread at AVS.

Seems like a great card hardware-wise but Audiotrak seems to be the better choice with its drivers. Here's is Audiotrak's homepage. I wish they offered a front panel I/O, so if it's really important to you maybe the Terratec is the better buy.
