Sound System for around $1000 (1 Viewer)

Hi, Im looking to buy, new or used, a reciver + speakers, for my home theater system.

I will be connecting it to the computer to play music, watch dvd movies, watch hdtv from satelite reciver. It will also be used for music during parties (rearange speakers outside of lounge room).

What do you guys recommend?
