While watching The Matrix, I've noticed that in the lobby gun fight scene & the helicoptor machine gun scene the sound seems to be lowered or slightly muffled. Is this drop in volume the intended sound track or is my system unable to keep up with the audio demand?
    I have a Sony STR-DE875 & NHT sub/satellite speaker package.

These 'sound fades' correspond with slow-motion sequences and are intentional (note that the volume of the score is unchanged during the slow-motion lobby sequences). This sort of sound effect is not uncommon and has been used in countless films over the years (Blade, We Were Soldiers, T2, True Lies and Saving Private Ryan are some that come to mind off the top of my head).
