With all eys on the Lions, the Panther quietly creep up and took the trophy. 15 consecutive loses, a new NFL record, also ranked last in both offense and defense.

Yes, the Panthers were a much worse team this year than the Lions, even though they only lost one more game. I watched their game against the Rams in November, and it looked like Oklahoma vs. Our Lady Of The Lake. [IMG]

Fifteen losses in a row, worst record in the league, and they don't get the first pick in the draft (it goes to the new Houston franchise). Sometimes you can't win for losing....

The funny thing is that the Lions and Panthers combined to win only three more games than the Houston Texans this past season. [IMG] The Texans did a better job of managing their salaries, though, and at least got their money's worth.

What is really pathetic though is the fact that this is a particularly bad draft year. There are no "can't miss" picks ie - Ricky Williams, Peyton Manning, etc., no one to build the franchise around My guess is that the Lions go for another Andre Ware (someone who won't be in the league in five years!)

The Lions will find some help in the draft. All they really need is improved speed at every single position on both sides of the ball!!! Seriously, though, my bet is that the Lions will draft the best player available who is not a quarterback or defensive end.

Detroit should trade down in the draft for more picks. Either Joey Harrington or David Carr should be available at #3, and some team needing a QB will be willing to trade up for one of these guys. The Lions need all the picks they can get. They need help almost everywhere.

    Scott,
I agree with you on what the Lions should do. That being said, my bet is still that they will draft the best available player who is not a quarterback or a defensive end with their 3rd pick overall.

Millen and Morninhweg actually made some good decisions in last year's draft (Backus, Shaun Rogers, McMahon), so hopefully that trend will continue. They certainly couldn't do worse than Bobby Ross (Aaron Gibson, Stocker McDougal, Terry Fair, etc.).
